Making tracks preperations

Below you can see how I started with making tracks for my excavator tracks are made out of wooden strips. I'm sure there are orther ways for making tracks and I don't say that mine is the best! So feel free to comment this blog and/or make a suggestion for improvements.

Dutchy, Noticed your "preference" for the bandsaw over the tablesaw. Is there any reason (other than smaller kerf) as my bandsaw straight cuts suck… when I repeat it a few times it just simply sucks, sucks, sucks.

Sorry to deviate from the topic (again)... crowie, do you use a sled or will your thicky handle narrow pieces (what thickness?)?

My shop is small and my saw machine is part of the heavy 5 in 1. To use this machine I have to make him ready and after sawing I have to store him again. Therefor I prefere the bandsaw above the circle saw, but for a lot of work the circle saw would be better.

I had wondered why the band saw, but hey it got it done and that's all that counts.
The spacing for the treads worked out just right for my table saw stock saw blade.
So I had figures you had planed it that way, but may be not, but it sure worked out great for me and the table saw.

Very interesting we've now seen 3 completely different ways to get the treads made.
I wonder how Gr8hunter will do his, and as I've been known to say there's a hundred ways to get it done it all depends on the builder and the tools at hand.

Not having done the build, so I may be talking with forked tongue, however, rather than
Brown Wood Rectangle Flooring Floor

any thoughts on making a similar jig to this,
Wood Rectangle Automotive exterior Floor Flooring

with 45° triangles on each end to hold a number of tracks for bevel edge sanding.
As mentioned, I am only brainstorming and I could see an issue with the application of too much pressure on the triangles could pop/slide the tracks ou. However, with a little more thought and the right pressure (you would need to choose the type of clamp carefully), bulk sanding may shorten the production cycle time.

Just to get other readers thinking juices flowing….
Rectangle Line Slope Screenshot Font

That would not be a good choice of clamps… it was the only one I had in SketchUp… carpet tape would probably serve better or at least supplement soft clamping.

I'm assuming that's a flap sander to remove the splinters… or you have a bad case of mosquitos. What grade is it?

In the time you have made a jig or even stick the tracks to the carpet tape I'm ready with sanding. For a bevel of 2×2 I need to move the track about 10 cm. on my sanding disk, for a 1×1 bevel 4 cm is enough.

It is a steel brush, maybe a brush with a synthetic material would be better, but I didn't have one and after a try with the steel brush there where no mosquito isssues. However it depends of the wood of course.

Sorry Dutchy, but your sanding skills leave mine in the dirt… my sanding skills suck a tad more than my bandsawing skills.
Furthermore your maths have me a big "slightly confused"... is that 2×2 quote for, big or small values of 2?
It was just a thought thrown up in the air to see where it might land…
It is a steel brush,....
- Dutchy
As someone once said there are 100 ways… I would never have thought of a steel brush… or even a synthetic hybrid… I'm far from a master of sanding but my "expertise" is limited to sand paper.

Handy bit of info nevertheless.
