Thanks for the feedback Stephen. I didn't mean it as a religious statement and I apologize if it came across as that.
Just want to remind people to appreciate the source of the woodworking material. Trees come from the earth just as infants come from a Mother. Perhaps I got a little carried away in the analogy.
Thanks again and I'll remember your comments for future issues.
Great job. I love how these bring topics into view that I might have skipped over. And it is really hard for me to interpret any religious connotations in there. It was a well written analogy that fits perfectly with Mother's day. Well Done!!!
Deb, I'm having a problem getting on the emag. Could you help an old codger? Never mind Deb, I found it. tanks. Keep up the great work. We all love and appreciate the jiob you do. Sorry since I cut of the end of my finger when I go for the o key I usually hit two keys now. It's really missed up my typing.
Hi fellow LumberJocksandJills. I suspect the Mother Earth comment comes from a person who is well informed on such matters and the people who imply that it's not offensive aren't aware of the term's meaning. I suggest you Wiki "Mother Earth" and observe the definitions and uses. They all derive from religious roots. I'm not saying someone should or shouldn't be offended. I'm just saying we can all be a little quicker on the research (we all have internet I presume) before we start another flame war. I've noticed one of the quickest ways to start trouble is to tell someone they shouldn't feel the way they feel.
I've seen and used the term "Mother Earth" numerous times. Never once did I associate it with ANY kind of a Religous Meaning.
What about "Mother Nature"? Can we dig deep enough to find a Religious Root somewhere for this also? In fact (research) it is synonymous with "Mother Earth". "Earth" is the "Mother" of all things is that offensive also?
"I would praise God for creating trees"? I wouldn't because I'm not Religous. AND we are all entitled to our views on Creation or Evolution. I'm also NOT telling anyone how they should feel or what they should or should not believe in.
If we have to start researching every term we use because we MIGHT offend someone else's definition of that term. Why bother? In fact there are Dozens of Interpretations of "Mother Earth" one of them is the Catholic Religion known better today as "The Virgin Mary" (Researched), "Mother Earth News" a Magazine and also a Periodical. At least Five Bands and Orchestras known as "Mother Earth". Aztec, Mayan, Greek, Hindu and on and on.
Whatever "Rocks Your Boat" is fine with me. MsDebbie your Analogy was Spot On! I saw nothing that you need to Apologise for. I enjoyed the eMag very much.
Looking forward to more of the same.
