This is how I did it.

What can you do with DVD/CD containers when they are empty?

One thing I found to do with them is use them to stain and finish finials without getting stain and finish on my hands.

First, I need a way to mount the finials on the 'spindle'. I found that the spindles have a 7/16 inch inside diameter and the finials I turned had a 7/16 inch turned dowel on them. Coincidence… not planned, I assure you. So with that, I found some scraps of MDF and I mean scrapes.

I drilled a 7/16 inch hole in the center of the scrape, took the drill bit off the drill and inserted it into the spindle and then through the hole in the scrape. I used two screws to attach the scrape to the spindle.

Now, it was very easy to put the finial into the hole in the scrape and stain the finials without having to handle them. Once the stain was on, I used the container to prop up the spindle until the stain dried. Then, I used the spindle to spray the final finish on the finial and again used the container to prop up the spindle until the finish dried.

I guess if the dowel had been another size other than 7/16 inch, I could have filled the 7/16 inch hole with a bung and re-drill the scrape to fit the dowel.

Hope this helps you all. Thanks for viewing.
