drying green lumber

I HAVE RECENTLY AQUIRED SOME WALNUT, MAPLE AND POPLAR TREES THAT HAVE BEEN CUT INTO ROUGH LUMBER. I WANT TO KNOW HOW TO TREAT THE ENDS TO MINIMIZE SPLITTING. IN OTHER WORDS WHAT DO YOU PAINT ON THE ENDS OF THE GREEN WOOD?

Really, you can use just "paint", but I know WoodCrafters sells a commercial end paint for just that. Also, you can make a large staple and drive in the ends at the center of the board, 3-4" long, 2-3" deep, (don't forget to pull them back out when you finally use the lumber!)
There is a wax emulsion that has wax suspended in water and you paint it on. Or some latex or enamel paint.
I've had good results using yellow carpenters glue. I give it a couple of coats, because it soaks in. I think the waterproof version would be best. I've got some Maple wood turning blanks, about 6" square on a shelf for several years, with no cracks. They recommend watering the glue down a little, but I always use it full strength.
Schroeder, why the staple? Does it help stabilize the grain? What would you use to fabricate one? Could you use a wire hanger to make the staple, or what?
This intrigues me!

Dick, would elmer's carpentry glue work? I am getting some green wood and need to dry it, also. I would like to minimize checking and splitting, too.

God Bless,
Hawg
Anchorseal is the brand name of the emulsion you guys are talking about, you get from woodcraft. You can get it cheaper probably off ebay and buy it by the gallon it's cheaper that way, if you can buy more its cheaper yet, about 17.00-20.00 USD A gallon. It does work good though. I treat all my wood with it. I've also used paint, latex and oil based to the same success. jockmike
I've used Anchorseal with good results but I may try the carpenters glue suggestion.
there is some sealer called Check Stop that i got a Roda paints. this sealer is used by the mills around here….
< if it were bad, they would not use it> ...I am trying and will let you know.
Our local saw mill also uses the check stop seems to get good results
