I am looking to build a shed. I have access to scaps and leftovers from a local outdoor theatre. I get a lot of 2×4s and a few pieces of 3/4 plywood. There is usually also many sheets of 1/8 or 1/4 inch luan or floor underlayment. My question is whether or not I could double up these sheets to use as exterior sheet in on a small storage shed (under 120 sq. Ft.)? There is always Bgood amount if it and I hate to see it go to waste. Any other good ideas if what time do with this material?

Two 1/4 inch sheets on top of each other aren't nearly as stiff or strong as one 1/2 inch sheet. The only way I would do it is to laminate the two pieces together with glue and compression. It wouldn't be worth it to me.

I grab every piece of underlayment I can find in dumpsters… and use it for all sorts stuff - but not exterior walls

It is great for quick-n-dirty shop projects, small boxes and organizers, small drawers and drawer dividers, scroll saw stuff if you are into that, and I even made the motor cover for my table saw out of it. Strong but lightweight, cuts easily and glues up great. Plus - the price is right.

Visit some construction sites with a 6 pack or two of beer and you can have lots of cut offs of plywood or wafer board for your shop. Save the other stuff for smaller projects. I have a neighbor that is Mexican and he takes me to sites where he knows someone. Always amazed at what we bring back that would have been tossed otherwise.
