I have a 1 hp 650 cfm dust collector that I bought to go with my planer. Today I gave it its first heavy use and managed to clog it within a few minutes. I do have another 1 hp blower and I'm wondering how or if I could get the two of them to work together.

My quick initial response is you need more cfm as you eluded to. To give a better answer you need to provide what planer you are using, what hoses you are using, as well as the diameter.

Before I had a pre separator into the impeller I blamed my clogs on low cfm but it was however that it was clogging on the intake grid prior to the impeller that caused my backup. I couldn't run my 2hp HF dc directly to my planer taking 1/16" off without the hose clogging when it was stock.

Planers make a huge amount of large chips along with a lot of dust.

To compound the volume problem most lunchbox planers only have a 2 1/2" port to connect to the dust collector. This restricts the volume of air that can get into the hose to convey the chips along. One way to help this situation is to get a bell reducer to connect the 2 1/2" port to a 4" pipe and drill several holes into the tapered section of the reducer. This will allow some bleed air into the pipe to help convey the chips.

Another problem, sometimes, is the inlet on the fan has a grid over it to prevent large chunks of debris going into the impeller and wrecking it. Big chips can get stuck there and that slows the air flow and that causes more chips to stick in the pipe and it just dominoes.

A solution for these two problems is to run a short smooth pipe (like PVC) straight from the planer outlet into a trash can or box that is sealed. Then connect the dust collector hose to the can lid or top of the box. The big chips and some of the dust will drop out of the air stream in the container and the hose to the fan will not get plugged by the smaller dust it now has to transport.

The planer is a monster, a 20" 5hp Sunhill with straight blades and a 5" dust port. My dc came with a 4" flexible hose which is what I'll be using until I set up a more permanent ducting system. I was planing cedar boards for some Adirondack chairs. Since there's obviously a problem I will be looking to put the two blowers in sequence or parallel to one another along with adding a thein separator. I'm familiar with the separator and how to put one together but I'm not at all sure how to get help from both blowers and avoid them working against one another.

You could try using a 5" flex hose to your DC and a very gradual transition into the 4" intake port. The 5" hose will offer 56% more area to help prevent clogging. Keeping the bags/filters as clean as possible will help keep your airflow at top speed reducing the chance of clogging. With dirty bags/filters you'll still likely experience an increased chance of clogging at the transition under heavy use.

I think the 5" hose will help but the clog appears to happen as the chips enter the blower. I found a local place that sells large storage barrels for cheap and am working on separator plans. I will upgrade to 5" hose from the separator to the planer but will use the 4" hose I have to go from the separator to the blower. That way I'm dealing with the high volume of chips the planer can make. I'm also still looking into adding the additional blower to my set up.

You do not want to add the load of a Thein Separator to your already underpowered system.
True it will catch a lot of dust and help keep the bag or filter from clogging, but that is not your problem.
It adds static pressure loss at the same time and you do not have enough of that in the first place.

Run as short and straight of a pipe as possible to one of those storage barrels you are looking at. Then come out of the top of the barrel with two 4" pipes or hoses running to the two fans you have. This will get you the most possible collecting capacity with the equipment you have.

Then start saving up for a bigger collector.
