Hello LJ'ers!!! It's a beautiful Monday morning in Southern Indiana. And yes… I can say that about a Monday morning for two reasons… 1) I don't have to go into work till noon. and 2) I have a glorious thing called coffee (just recently started drinking coffee).

Anyhow… I've been cleaning and organizing my shop like crazy. BUT… I get distracted by projects or by picking up a load of rescued lumber (yep… that's my term… not a hoarder… I'm a wood rescuer :). So my shop has been a total wreck. Not just messy… it got to the point where it was not safe to work and there was just no room. So I've been doing LOTS of organizing. The first thing I did was realize that I had too much stuff that wasn't essential in my shop. I am fortunate enough to have a storage garage that is about two minutes from my house. It's nice and big and I have been storing my overstock lumber and other things from my home there (like Christmas decorations).

Two weeks ago my daughter and I built these. It was a lot of fun and a great time of bonding for me and my daughter.
Here's the blog entry I did http://lumberjocks.com/AngieO/blog/42949

Wood Interior design Shelving Floor Flooring

So this past week I built a lumber rack for the garage. I needed a place to store all this lumber I'm rescuing. I will share more photos once I get them uploaded but here's a sneak peak. LOL

So yesterday we removed as many things as we could from the shop in my truck and took a load over to the garage. It gave me the room I needed to start getting the shop under control.

After an hour of clean up I decided that I needed to go inside and search for a shop project to make. See… I've never had a radio in my shop. Even though it's almost been two years. And it seems like when I have my music playing… things just go smoother. I usually use my iPhone but it runs down the battery pretty quickly and… more importantly… it's a distraction because I am then very aware of all the alerts coming in. So.. I put out a request to my friends on Facebook and asked if anyone had an old radio they'd like to get rid of. The next day.. I had a new to me late 80's or early 90's radio on my porch. I LOVE having music going. It just makes things go smoother. Don't know why.. just does.

So now… I need a place to put it. I know… all that ^^^^^ to get to the point. I have this radio and I need a place to put it. I found the perfect spot. There is a space right when I walk in the door. Its above the electric panel and is the perfect size. Not really useful space for much of anything. But I can't just throw a shelf up there. I'm limited on room. So I decided I wanted to use a french cleat shelf like I've seen before. Only… I don't remember where I seen it.

Off to Pinterest with a cup of coffee I go. It's my go to place for ideas (other than LJ's). The thing is… I suck at searching the projects on LJ's. I don't know why. I just do. So if I have a limited amount of time I go to Pinterest. Which lead me to my question. Since woodworking is primarily a male dominated hobby/craft… do many men use it to share their work? I know Jay Bates does. Maybe Steve Ramsey.. but I don't know if any others do. Recently I started pinning things from LJ's to my Pinterest boards so that I can find them easy.

So do you guys use Pinterest? If so, do you share your work or just look for inspiration?

I went to Pinteret and searched "french cleat storage". BAM… immediately got the hit I wanted. There's the shelf I want to build.

See the little black tool box with red shelves? I want to build a shelf like that for my radio. That way the cleat is at the top of the space.

BTW… the link to that pic is http://thesuburbanwoodworker.com/organize/french-cleat-storage-how-to/
He has a lot of great storage ideas for both our shops and our garages. Also has a little hot-to on there.

So… Guess what I'm making today??? :)

Happy Woodworking!

Edward… Totally understand that. Nothing wrong with that at all. Everyone is different. I think I love sharing my stuff because… well… I'm too excited about each project I do. I need someone to share it with. Sometimes I'm amazed at what I actually did. Like the lumber rack. I can't believe I built that… by myself. It was a huge accomplishment for me. It's not like I have many people over to my garage. And.. who knows who it will inspire. :)
Thanks for your input

Hey Angie, your shop is sure looking good. You'll find that wall space quickly disappears. I had a hard time finding a place for a calander in my barn!!

I have a site on Pinterest where I have many products but none lately. We used to just click on a link to Pinterest from LJ;s but I don't see it any more.

I did get one job from there. A guy posted an urn on there and the lady wanted a bigger one but the same shape and he would not make her one.. she asked me and I did!

Pinterest? Nope.

The cleat system will allow flexability as you grow. I have industrial heavy duty metal hanging supports so I can change the shelving. Your shelves are a great use of timber.

Great that your daughter is involved! Don't rescue more than you can handle or your nice order will quickly disappear.

winter's coming don't forget the "Ice Melt!" :<)

Great blog!

(Is that a De Walt 12" planer?

Angie, I hope they are working on the search feature here. It used to be better. I use Google image to search a particular idea like this: "french cleat storage lumberjocks" That will get me images on LJ as well as other sites like Pintrest. Pintrest is no longer lurker friendly and I refuse to sign up.

I'm across the river in Louisville. Pinterest eludes me so far. I have enough on-line distractions.

My wife is always looking up stuff on Pinterest, I just can't get into it. She has shown me a few things that she would like built, but lately it's either something that we don't need and don't have room for or it's made entirely of unobtainium and would cost hundreds of dollars in materials.

Not a Pintrest user … It's just to frustrating to try to learn all the programs … I grew up in the quill pen and slide rule era. These "user friendly" sites assume that you have at least one degree in computer science and automatically know how to operate the programs … (I spend a lot of time with customer service reps).
I took 4 classes to learn to use Excell and Word, then, ... The next month they changed them again …
Some programmer at MicroSoft sat up real late one night trying to 'figger' out how to spoil Grumpymike's day.

Hi Angie, I don't use Pinterest to share my projects, heck, I often forget to share them here. I am currently putting a french cleat system in my shop for adding more storage cabinets. Here is my stereo shelf over my workbench…..

Maybe I haven't given it a chance but I can't stand Pintrest the bulk of it is the HGTV crowd projects that just don't appeal to me. Look I cut this crib up and made a very tacky bench out of it sort of thing. It reminds me of the projects I would see on one of those shows were two couples switched houses to fix up a room on a budget. MDF, staples, paint slapped everywhere…..Martha Stewart meets trailer trash sort of fusion.

I have come across some legit stuff but takes me too much effort to find so I just don't check it out except when my wife points something out.

TravisH… you are so right there. It does have lots of Martha Stewart meets trailer trash. That's a great way to put it. I do like some of those projects but that's the part of me that likes to rescue something and make it useful. I would much prefer to be making an heirloom piece that will last forever. However… I can't always do that. :)

boxcarmarty… your shop is so clean. I'm so jealous. And look at all that space to walk abound! lol

grumpymike… I LOVE EXCEL! When I first ever got a computer and got Microsoft i though that was the dumbest program every and none would ever use it. I got online and took some tutorials and became an excel master. However… yep… then they changed it. And I don't use it that often anymore. So every now and again I have to retrain myself. Thank God for YouTube.

Blackie and JimJakosh… what's your Pinterest name?

CharlesA… Howdy neighbor!

firefighterontheside… love your signature!

Candy… why do you not want to sign up for Pinterest? On the other hand… it's very addictive.. so maybe that's a good thing.

bigblockyeti… just about everything on there is made out of unobtanium for me.. LOL. Hence… the wood rescuing.

Doc… that is just the box… the real thing is resting in it's spot on my upcycled nightstand with movable base in the shop. :)

Thanks Mike and higtron

Cooldavion…I've yet to delve into the Instegram world.

Thanks for all the comments. I don't usually answer every one… but.. I did tonight. lol
