After spending a few weeks looking over our long list of home improvement projects we'd like to get done, my wife and I have finally narrowed our list down into two categories: "to do" and "wish we could do."
Don't all of your home improvement lists go through a scrubbing like that at some point? LOL.
Anyway, one of the projects we've decided we are definitely going to do this summer is adding a cupola to the roof of our home. With our country locale in the Amish-countryside of PA, we certainly aren't going to be the first people to have one of these added to our home - but we think it's going to be an upgrade overall. A lot of our neighbors have had these on their house for years - whether it's an old farm house, or a remodeled barn house, etc. A lot of people around here also have these cupolas on top of their sheds, garages, and gazebos… although we don't have all those yard buildings to worry about at this point.
I've been going back and forth on whether or not to try building one myself… but I'm kind of a novice "lumberjock" so I think the project may be above my abilities LOL.
The main thing we've been trying to figure out all along is exactly what kind of benefits are we going to get out of adding this cupola to our house? Our attic is going to be vented better, sure. It fits the style of our home and makes it more attractive - great. But since this home we live in right now is not likely to be our last, we're looking to get a little ROI from this cupola when we go to sell. Who wouldn't? After all, our home is a financial investment for us as well as a place to live (even though we aren't house flippers or anything like that).
Anyway, we've been shopping for cupolas online for a couple weeks now and I think we know who we're gonna buy from. What I really would like to figure out now is how much money to spend… and what type of home value improvement I'm going to get after I install?
Anyone out there who has either built one of these on their house or had one of these installed on their house that can comment on what type of value it adds to your home from a monetary standpoint?
