Today I bought a Nova modular 12" tool rest for my Rikon mini lathe. After installing it, I realized that it wasn't level, or aligned with the bed of the lathe or the axis of rotation of the turning stock. Reversing it gives the same result: it is about 1/8" lower on the headstock side. I am assuming that the mounting hole for the rest is not quite vertical. I then remounted the stock 8" rest and found it to be low on the left, too. I just hadn't noticed in the limited time I had used the lathe. I'll call Rikon on Monday, given that the lathe is under warranty, but I wonder how common this defect is.
