We are excited to announce that we are live on our new forum platform!

It’s been a long time coming. Let’s face it. Sometimes older forum technology lags behind other parts of the internet. Although seeing the same format for a long time is comforting, the member experience shouldn’t include dealing with outdated, unsafe, slow software.

The transition to a new platform will never be 100% smooth but the days of dealing with out of date forum software are over. We have teams dedicated to building a world-class community for you. The development has been steady with regular software releases since May 2019. Asking members for feedback and coming up with ideas for improvement is what we want.

Speed and Reliability Are Key
No one should have to wait for information. This site has been built to be much faster and more reliable, period.

New Homepage Experience
Our algorithm will serve a personal customized feed based on your prior engagement with content on the site. If you’ve liked and or commented, or are following certain topics that are of interest to you, similar content will appear at the top of the homepage.

Search
We have introduced new search algorithms, powered by an industry-leading AI platform, to help you find information faster. We plan to roll out new features to continue improving search, and to power many additional areas of the forum.

Due to the volume of content, our search platform may take some time to complete indexing over the first few days after migrating. During this process, you may see a limited number of posts until indexing has been completed. We appreciate your patience.

Finding Your Way Around
We have made the design clean and simple to use. Near the upper right-hand corner of the community, you will see navigation icons.

The first icon is for what’s new on the site.

Clicking on it, by default, will take you to new unread posts. On that page, you can click on additional tabs as well, such as Popular, if you prefer to view active topics.

Clicking the list icon next to “NEW” will bring you to the full forum listing.

Clicking your avatar will give you a drop-down menu for all things related to your account.

You can also navigate more by clicking the 3 vertical dots.

Dark Mode
We have introduced Dark Mode. One of our favorite features allows you to access the site with a power-saving, and easier on the eyes dark mode. You can access it in the drop-down menu under the 3 vertical dots.

Save Bookmarks
Now you can save your favorite discussion threads and posts! Bookmarks are a handy way to remember and easily find great content or stuff you want to read later.

We also wanted to make it easier for new users to understand the lingo of forums. We have cleaned up various language to more commonly recognized phrases including:
  • Following - Thread subscriptions, and Watched are now known as Following
  • Conversations - Private Messages or PMs are now conversations and can be accessed from the user avatar drop-down in the main navigation
  • Showcase - Showcase is designed for users to "showcase" items/projects through the use of uploaded images, text descriptions and custom content categories. It’s a way to visually and textually provide detailed information on the content you wish to share. The showcase would be similar to a catalog, whereas the gallery would be like a photo album. It can be accessed from the drop-down menu with the 3 dots.
Take a tour and look around! Check out the Help section for some quick FAQs about the new platform.

Please keep all feedback, questions, concerns, requests for help, etc. regarding the new platform right here in this Feedback thread. This will help us make sure not to miss a request for help and also let us pass along your thoughts to our Product team. The Admins and I will be here to help along the way taking note of your comments.

Mads - Click the icon top right with your profile picture and select My Showcase. That will show a list of your projects.
To see your blog posts, select Blogs in the header of the My Showcase page and select the Filter lookup. Type 'Mafe' in the 'Started by' field and click the Filter button.
To post a new project or blog, click the 'New' icon that looks like a speech bubble and to the right of where it says 'Whats New', click Create Post. You will then be able to choose whether you are posting a project or blog etc, just like before. Hope that helps.
Hi dear Andy,
Yes I see it's possible, but it's not doing it in order, the series have gone, years of making order and making everything easy for others just vanished...
I can see it's possible, but that's a hopeless way. also I can't sort by date or blog series anymore, on the blogs...

When I do as you say, I also get into peoples comments, so that my blog is a sub to this...

I need to count backwards now.

Hugs my friend,
Mads

I stated earlier that the list of problems with blogs is long. So --- here is my attempt of consolidating the issues into a single list.

Blogs need to presented as a series
  • A blog is a story with chapters. Each chapter should be a new page – connected to the series and in order.
  • Ideally the series has a title and each chapter has a unique title – just like a book title and chapter titles

Blogs are not forums
  • A blog is not a continuous stream of conversation – a single chapter can be treated that way but not the entire blog.
  • Blogs should not be accessed as a forum topic. Blogs and forums are different. Suggesting otherwise is confusing.

Blogs are a form of content creation
  • Blogs should be presented like projects.
  • Blogs and projects are a vehicle to share content.
  • Blogs are typically more content rich than project postings

Blogs should be easy to navigate
  • A reader of a blog should be able to move to a chapter of interest with a single click

Blogs need to be showcased just like projects – but separately
  • Given the content of blogs and projects, both should be showcased.

New chapters should be highlighted
  • Readers are typically interested in following the story of a build
  • Enabling quick access to new chapters makes the blog section easier to use

I can update this list with any suggestions

Please ignore the testing you see within Showcase.
CK, the forum favorites from the old site should be in your bookmarks.

What's the difference between the "Showcase" and the "Projects"?

Seems to be the same thing with 2 different names...

Projects are a subset (Category) of Showcase, but I imagine the terms will be used interchangeably, for the most part (Showcase is the generic term from the software platform)

Give me a bit here. We are working on something that I will need your input on.

I tried again this morning and I really don't like this new format. I was going to post a project this morning and I couldn't figure out how to add pictures and the verbage was different so I didn't understand it. I don't mind working hard to understand a new program, but I won't work that hard to read or post on a forum. I will miss reading what my friends had to say and the wonderful projects they post. I might stop by in a few weeks to see if anything has changed. I think this is a case of fixing something that isn't broke.

I can teach you how to add a project. After a few times doing it, it will become automatic for you.

How to Create A Showcase

From the navigation, near the upper right-hand corner, click the Kebab (3 vertical dots) to open the drop-down menu and select Showcase.

From the Showcase page, click on Add item in the right-hand corner.

A popup will appear at the top. Click on Showcase. (In this case, select Projects after click click on Add item.)

A form will open for you to fill in the blanks, such as title, tags, general information, etc.

Scroll down to General Information to add content and images like you would for writing a post. The first image added will be the cover photo.

Add any additional item details, and click Preview or Save at the bottom.

If you want to make any changes, including choosing a different cover photo from the images you added, you can do so by editing your showcase.

Take A Deep Breath

I need y'all to take a deep breath. I fully understand that change is hard, especially when it involves how to do something within the new forum software. I need you to trust that we are working behind the scenes to make some of the features work better for this community.

Please Consider The Following
  • Please take the time to actually read the FAQs.
  • We will get through this one step at a time, and I will be right here with you every step of the way.
  • Do not pile on the same feedback over and over again. If someone has already provided the feedback, quoting and agreeing multiple times does not help, it simply makes it more difficult for the members to find the answers to the questions they have asked.
  • Although I absolutely love that y'all are working together to help each other, for now, please let ME respond to the questions so we don't increase confusion.

Not so much a problem with the creation of blog posts and such, as much as the reading of older entries. I don't think I've seen this mentioned already - if it has, my apologies.

Basically... with the new format treating the old blog posts like forum threads, every single reply to the original 'blog post', quotes the entire post, including every single picture, in every response. This makes reading through the follow-up responses get very, very old very fast as I spend more time scrolling past quotes and attachments than viewing actual content. Not sure if there's a good way to 'trim' that behavior for old threads, but if there is, it may be worth exploring.

Thanks, Cricket. But at the moment it feels as though someone has rearranged my house so every time I get up in the middle of the night, I end up peeing in the closet. And then I trip over the ottoman.

and then there’s all my ”stuff” (blog posts) which someone has put in boxes and set in the garage. There’s two of those I was working on, so now I spend my day trying to find my stuff, and getting cranky when I can’t.

and thanks to the new layout, I can’t even see anentire paragraph on my phone. The banner on the top, plus the keyboard on the bottom when I’m trying to write leave me five and a half lines I can see.

Pictures are much easier on the new platform. Click on the image icon below the text box (between the chain lines and the camera) and follow the directions or you can simply copy and paste the image directly into the text box. You can even drag and drop.

And I don't mean talking to myself. That I understand.

All of my private messages from the old lumberjocks are now conversations in the new lumberjocks.

When I open a conversation, all I see is the message received from the other person. Unless I can't find it.

And, it looks like each one is listed twice.
I saw that —looks like a conversion BUG
I don't get why on the main page in the middle is the picture "Projects in Progress" when you go to it, it's closed. I understand advertising the new forum, but when you click on it you should be taken to the forum as well. Kind of missing the mark IMO
I’m Guessing but I think they decided Journals is a better way to do Projects in Progress.

The daily top three projects and my list of favorites were among my favorite things on this site. are they both permanently gone or is this just part of growing pains?
