We are excited to announce that we are live on our new forum platform!

It’s been a long time coming. Let’s face it. Sometimes older forum technology lags behind other parts of the internet. Although seeing the same format for a long time is comforting, the member experience shouldn’t include dealing with outdated, unsafe, slow software.

The transition to a new platform will never be 100% smooth but the days of dealing with out of date forum software are over. We have teams dedicated to building a world-class community for you. The development has been steady with regular software releases since May 2019. Asking members for feedback and coming up with ideas for improvement is what we want.

Speed and Reliability Are Key
No one should have to wait for information. This site has been built to be much faster and more reliable, period.

New Homepage Experience
Our algorithm will serve a personal customized feed based on your prior engagement with content on the site. If you’ve liked and or commented, or are following certain topics that are of interest to you, similar content will appear at the top of the homepage.

Search
We have introduced new search algorithms, powered by an industry-leading AI platform, to help you find information faster. We plan to roll out new features to continue improving search, and to power many additional areas of the forum.

Due to the volume of content, our search platform may take some time to complete indexing over the first few days after migrating. During this process, you may see a limited number of posts until indexing has been completed. We appreciate your patience.

Finding Your Way Around
We have made the design clean and simple to use. Near the upper right-hand corner of the community, you will see navigation icons.

The first icon is for what’s new on the site.

Clicking on it, by default, will take you to new unread posts. On that page, you can click on additional tabs as well, such as Popular, if you prefer to view active topics.

Clicking the list icon next to “NEW” will bring you to the full forum listing.

Clicking your avatar will give you a drop-down menu for all things related to your account.

You can also navigate more by clicking the 3 vertical dots.

Dark Mode
We have introduced Dark Mode. One of our favorite features allows you to access the site with a power-saving, and easier on the eyes dark mode. You can access it in the drop-down menu under the 3 vertical dots.

Save Bookmarks
Now you can save your favorite discussion threads and posts! Bookmarks are a handy way to remember and easily find great content or stuff you want to read later.

We also wanted to make it easier for new users to understand the lingo of forums. We have cleaned up various language to more commonly recognized phrases including:
  • Following - Thread subscriptions, and Watched are now known as Following
  • Conversations - Private Messages or PMs are now conversations and can be accessed from the user avatar drop-down in the main navigation
  • Showcase - Showcase is designed for users to "showcase" items/projects through the use of uploaded images, text descriptions and custom content categories. It’s a way to visually and textually provide detailed information on the content you wish to share. The showcase would be similar to a catalog, whereas the gallery would be like a photo album. It can be accessed from the drop-down menu with the 3 dots.
Take a tour and look around! Check out the Help section for some quick FAQs about the new platform.

Please keep all feedback, questions, concerns, requests for help, etc. regarding the new platform right here in this Feedback thread. This will help us make sure not to miss a request for help and also let us pass along your thoughts to our Product team. The Admins and I will be here to help along the way taking note of your comments.

Hi Cricket, information overload... I feel for you over the next few days while us old farts acclimatise.
Is there a FAQ (if not suggest one) to map the old features against the new. The projects (Showcase) and forums seem obvious, but I've just spent about 20 minutes looking for reviews.
What is the concept of Gallery?

Am I correct in assuming individuals' past reviews are now available under "My Profile""Articles"?

Are you looking for your own reviews or reviews that others have written?

The full listing of reviews is within The Review category.
Sorry if this has already been covered...

I am looking for other member's reviews... I have searched for "review" but only found the heading under "My Profiles" which was blank.
The Reviews tab you are seeing on your profile is related to the Marketplace, for when someone sells or buys something, the Buy or Seller can review how it went.

All of the Reviews were migrated over to a Reviews category.

If you are on the full listing page, you will see them right below blogs.

Sorry for beating a dead horse. Unfortunately my questions come from a person that hates reading but needs to, to acclimatise with the new "climate change".

Being a gadgets freak... on the old site my fist goto was Projects, closely followed by Reviews. The reviews have served me well in making purchasing decissions and informing me of "unknown" (to me) products. In fact I used to try to encourage more reviews for better overall members' understanding... hand tools may be good, but there are many unfamiliar alternatives.

I may be missing the obvious, but after finding "reviews", I couldn't find any filtering option. Is there a way of listing reviews like Showcases, listed in reverse chronological order.

I also feel that a Workshop link anchored on "My Profile" page would be more beneficial as many like me may have forgotten the member's nickname once they have found the Workshops list to do a search.

Maybe members could chase down their workshops and anchor/link that into their "rap sheet".

OOPS... cannot find my workshop again when I tried to execute my aforementioned link inclusion exercise... better post this reply, before I lose it, while I do a search on how to search for my workshop.

I went into my profile and pasted a link to my workshop.
..... I know that there are at least five LJ members that live within 20 minutes of me and I'm sure that there are more. It would be fun to know who they are so we could possibly arrange to get together or a swap meet. Of course for that to work it would be necessary for members to add their location to their profile.
I live at this address (///voluptuous.cadets.ultimatum), though may be a tad distant... however, if you zoom out (a lot) I'm only inches away.
Not sure if anybody have tried to create a New "Project" (old parlance), but I was under the impression that "Showcase" is the new Project. When I tried to create a "New ?" I was presented with the following,

What's the difference between a Showcase and Project? Is this a late amendment? Does the Workshop get imbeded in the workshop pool? I couldn't find my workshop at first and finally found it in My ProfileShocase Items.

I select based primarily on respect, attitude, and kindness.
pottzy, that rules both of us out, however, with sideways pictures (I hope) fixed, my door to saint status has been flung opened.

Actually, a TOC that was automatically/optionally added to a "chapter" would work pretty well - I think.
Sometimes one must put an extra effort into what the author wants to portray to their audience that software cannot cope with... much like sideways pictures under the old format, where people just couldn't be bothered.
Nevertheless I agree it should be a must and if Cricket and the techos can implement a similar feature, it would make life easier.

I personally would appreciate a "Summary" of new Reviews (all in one) rather than categorised... even if Filter selected.
ive not seen any sideways yet ? maybe thats gone.
Now sideways posters are software tackled

and after a good windup, will eventually self-explode... (thanks Chucky).

How do I post a new review? Do I just raise a new blog "Article (Long form content)" and choose my tags carefully to see where it slots into any particular Review Forum list?
Is there a rating system or do we need to manually add it. Not that it's a biggie, but I'd rather hold off if there is more development planed for "Review" type posts.
I'd rather not waste time if a new "tool/gizmo" that many may not be aware off, will stay that way.

Not sure if I read it right, however, I think if you read a new blog and don't mark it, it may be "lost" and then youe have to go and search (for the "what was that thing/topic again").
Definitely not a fan of the new layout. I used to be able to see several projects without scrolling. Now all I can see is 2 unless I scroll. It was a good run, but I doubt I'll use this site as much as I used to.
Oh no! Just when I got another laser indulger/supporter.

I can't believe I'm saying this... but we should all let Cricket and the techos sort what they can out, before we start to jump ship.

The team might do better if they viewed blogs like projects instead of a forum topic.
.....
And REVIEWS, as per Mozzies project layout suggestion... then when on the Review home page use the Filter if you want to "topicise".
..... it feels as though someone has rearranged my house so every time I get up in the middle of the night, I end up peeing in the closet. And then I trip over the ottoman.
Don't feel bad DP, I still do that in my old house and you'd think that Otto would use my spare bedroom.

(PS. Well worded issues.)

....hopefully things will improve.not to happy about some things myself.losing all my fav's was one of em
I believe Favourites are back... can now be found under Bookmarks,

I hadn't really paid that much attention to dead space. I just took a look at the Projects page and I sure see what you mean. Then I turned off my ad blocker and there was no more dead space!
I didn't know what people were on about regarding dead space... I thought it was space outside of Cask Reach!

I haven't joined the Premium Members movement because I don't want a shinny star (I already have one... now), but because I already run an AdBlocker as ads are a PITA on the WEB in general, not just LJ.

I appreciate that revenue need to be made for LJ to survive... it cannot survive on puzzles alone (or boxes and cutting boards... and the influx of those new fangle-dangled "product of a fancy pork butcher" boards), and the premium membership helps to feed the coffers. If LJ really needs funds, I'd rather stay a Philistine and make a donation without elevation to elitist status.
Hey everyone. I was looking for my workshop. Where can I find it.
Probable next (or under) your house.
....
BTW, I cobbled this together by first doing a filter on your member name, copy ?creator_id=65002 (65002 is your ID), then....
To think I created the alias of LittBlackDuck to hide from the cops... I never thought I'd get relegated to a number... just missing the orange onesie.

Sorry guys... gotta see a lighter side of a dire/confusing situation... I'm sure the clouds will eventually pass, in spite of the climate change panickers.

Logged out and came back in...

May I suggest the columns (top selection banner) on the home page be organised as Projects 1st, followed by Reviews (still waiting on more input on this), followed by the rest.

(I think) A visitor to the site would be totally confused by the "journal" entries as first impression.
yep same here no matter what i choose.
You'll first have to relinquish your premium membership so you can turn notify off...

Been reading through the comments to see if anyone else has found they can't upload pictured from their PC (or their yupie iPhone).

OOPSIEs!... my bad. Just realised I wasn't signed in and there's not the old "you must be signed in" warning.
I actually don't like it much. Clean looking and some updated features but harder to see what's going on and navigate. It will take some getting used to.
Pretty "deceptive" for a Craftsmanonthelake. ;)

Not sure why they reverted back to the old names instead of what was current on each account. Sure would be nice if they could fix that.
Hey crafty, if you get your new tag back, is "deceiver" up for grabs to replace "Anatidaephobia" that got banned?
hairy. I clicked on avatar to showcase to last of my projects and no workshop. Still up in the clouds somewhere in another world.
Two days trying to post a project also and it won't go through. It's probably my computer, it's over a year old already.
I thinking of giving up.
hairy and DD², don't give up... going to another forum you'll be faced with the same formatting issues... years ago I left them all for the old LJ, because of it's (LJ) simplicity... Jumping ship will present the same problems without you posting history.

I'm still spruiking vast changes to the "Review" topic... most of my other druthers have been flogged to death.

Speed is slow here too. but that's probably due to the 14,812.63 km distance... some comments take as long to send as to type.
.... "when all you have is a hammer everything looks like a nail"
....
Whack yourself twice (just in case you miss the first time) on the thumb... and you'll change your view on nails.
BTW, Here is an advanced search that will show you a grid display of new projects. You can save this as a browser bookmark.

EDIT to Add: I created the search so that it only shows projects dated after 9/1/22 to limit the search results.

It would be nice if there was an option on the Showcase filter to display the showcase items in this format. (Hint, Hint)
Was I supposed to link on that greyed band with the figure of a LJ???
