Hey guys, newbie here. My first band saw. I installed a new blade 1/4". That went ok as far as I can tell. I started to cut some pretty heavy wood. I notice some black stuff coming from the blade. It was the plastic guide that I was cutting into. Does that mean my blade is not tight or that Ian pushing the material to fast threw the blade? Now I have to find where can I buy the replacement guides for this band saw. I cut into the plastic guide itself. Any ideas would help.

It sounds to me like your whole saw isn't set up correctly. Heavy Wood? As in thick or that it actually weighs a huge amount when you are trying to cut through 1/8" cedar?

The first thought is to look through all the threads here to see how to set up the saw correctly. It is, after-all, just a clone of the 1000 other brands sold under different name.

If you are trying to cut thicker wood you will have to go more slowly. For thicker wood I use primarily a 1/2" blade.

Next, tighten that sucker up intil you hear the blade go , "Ping" when you flip it with you fingers.

Next, get rid of the factory blade/blades. They not only suck, they make an Electrolux look like a commercial chip collector in an Oregon sawmill.

Dallas, thanks for the quick reply. Being new here I will do more research on the subject. I concur, I don't think I had the blade tight enough. Like I said I am so new at this everything I do I have redo it or tear it apart do it again. But I guess that the learning curve for me. Once again thanks again for the quick reply.

You may be surprised at this, but HF actually sells parts. I found that out accidentally and their service isn't exactly quick (took me several weeks to get my part, that slow boat from China thing). But with a manual and part number you can call them and ask. The shipping (at least in my case) was very reasonable as well.

Without a picture hard to figure out what you are talking about and manual just as confusing looking at fig 28. Are you asking about part 11A blade guide normally potted metal that hold guide blocks or just guide blocks?

Specs on a new saw say saw now has blade guide bearings but manual still shows square upper and round lower blocks.

Take out damaged block & measure them for size. Do a search for cool blocks will see set of four cost less than $20 at most stores that sell them. If need both square & round blocks will cost littler more unless find packages of two.
