What's a Buddie
On Ljs it's someone who signs up to be your buddies and of course the good friends who read your corny comments and are kind enough to support you when the forces of evil are after you, :)) also the buddies who send you Pms telling you there problems , questions and just down right nice kind words. I enjoy helping when I can and supporting folks going through challenging times and sometimes I just don't have answers . what brought this post about was I was on my home page and looking at the people I have designated buddies and after clicking on a button found a button I hadn't seen before telling you(myself) who had designated you as there Buddie so after clicking on it I was blown away there were almost 180 buddies , Well of course I get a notice when someone selects me as a Buddie and I just think that's nice and go on looking at projects and posts. Well I'm amazed that, that many folks are willing to hear from me when I post a project or a blog other posts. I'm sure there are many other folks who have more buddies but I'm honored that, that many folks have an interest in what crazy things I have to say so thanks for the privilege of being your Buddie even those who have not signed up. All said and done it's just great to visit with all the wonderful folks on Ljs.
May we all have a wonderful upcoming year.

Jim, Glad to have you and your comments on this site. I haven't felt the need to "buddie" you, just because I know you will allways be there. Your comments and suggestions to me and others are allways very informative (or just plain funny)haha. It is nice to see your posts, comments, and projects. Whenever some one needs help on something, you usually have the answer for them or know where they can find it if you don't.

Thank You for shareing all your years of experiance and knowledge with us that are struggleing to learn something knew. (hard to teach us old guys new things sometimes)haha

Jim you are a good guy to keep an eye on since you are so knowledgeable. Hope that helps to explain it. I consider you a buddy even if I didn't buddy you up or butter you as the case may be :))

Wow, 180!!

Just keep on keeping on. I remember when you first started posting on LJ and at first I couldn't believe how often you were posting. Soon I came to appreciate your encouragement, positive outlook and constructive help to newbies as well as old salts. The other thing is that you really walk the talk - your knowledge is backed up with practical real life experience.

Like Topamax, I haven't clicked on you as a buddy, I know where to find you if I need to. I only have to scan the recent posts for A1Jim and bingo - there you are! But I was wondering - how do you find the time to "work" work?

You can never have enough buddies.

Unless they want to borrow money.

Or date your sister.

Although that last one can be mitigated if they have a 52" plasma TV and surround sound theatre system hooked up to their xbox.

I may be shallow and superficial but at least I'm honest about it.

Thanks Jim, I see a lots have no buddies at all I can't see why, I like to have buddies I had you for a long while now, what I do I read their profile, look at their projects and their posting the I decide if I as them to be buddy, some don't answer back so maybe they want to be alone or they don't like me, or other reasons.
I have some fine buddies even have some emails addresses, if I would not have any buddies I would not even log on.

I agree, you can't have too much support, I have never met any of you, and I feel close to so many. Since my main interest is turning, I have been picking up buddies, that have turnings in their projects, lateley. I look for people who have been active recently, aswell. Since another LJ is also a Chef, I have friended him. I appreciate, the support, and the wealth of knowledge, I get from his buddies being contacted everytime I post a question of a project.
Thanks for being a freind, and good luck to all of us in the New Year.

Jim I haven't been here on LJ very long at all. From my short time here and what I have seen so far you should not be surprised at all that you have so many buddies. I been to a few other sites similar to this and never felt more welcome / encouraged like I do here. And Jim you where one of the very first folks to welcome me. I personally haven't sent you a buddy invite yet due to being new around here and not wanting to harass anyone. I do enjoy reading your comments and seeing you around. From my perspective you are one of the many keys around here that makes this site a jewel in my eyes.

(Now to hurry up and send Jim a buddy invite…lol)

thanks jim ,
i buddy up with people that strike some cord in me ,
their work ,
their honesty ,
their integrity .
not all my buddys are 'pro 's ' .
some just need some help they admit to ,
i want to see where and how they develop ,
in their journey ,
if i buddy them ,
i get to see what they are up to ,
if i like a topic or project they posted ,
i can ' watch ' it and see the evolution of the help and
answers they receive .
now that we have 15,000 members ,
it is easy to lose most of the posts ,
some times i get a notice that ' so and so ' ,
posted , and say to myself , ' who is this guy ' ?
then i can go to their homepage and remember why i buddied with them .
some times i look at my buddys and send them a pm if they haven't been active for a while .
i get answers like , ' thanks for checking on me , it's been busy or hard around here lately ' ,
some kind words and a little interest can make a big difference in a life in turmoil ,
it's not just about the work , it's about caring for someone , and sharing these human experiences .

at the end of the day , if i have friends , my life is enriched too !

how sad to go thru life with only yourself to care about .

I figure the more buddies I have, the less they'll each have to chip in when I have a financial crisis. Now that I think of it, if each of the 114 people who count me as a buddy sent me $5, I could buy a decent bandsaw! :)

I know I for one while lurking around LJ, that I certainly appreciate the contributions and comments that you have made. That's what buddies are for. I don't contribute a ton here but that doesn't mean I seldom come here and when I do, its people like you that makes that happen.

Hey buddy, looking over your tools while standing outside you shop I was wondering, can I borrow a few of your planes? I need to smooth out some railroad ties I'm using to keep gravel in my driveway. Speaking of ties, you got a truck I can borrow to go get them, Buddy.

Just joking but we all have buddies like that. Thank goodness we don't here. All most of us here want is to borrow some good ideas. Share a bit of fellowship in a common interest.

I appreciate my new home here and my new friends like yourself.

Greetings Jim:
keep on keeping on…............ !! Now, can you loan me a few bucks…..... I need a new tool….. lool lol.

All of the above post are dead-on, and pretty well sum up what all are saying. I have no reply, cause it;s been said for me. When I needed a little help a while back with a perticular situation, you guided me in the right direction. I really appreciated it, too. You are always one willing to help others, so all I can say is….....

Now, let me see if I ever added A1jim as a buddie?

Jim, I alway enjoy your posts. although I don't buddy people I come here at least once or twice a day anenjoy looking a others project advice etc. I don't have a shop right now and am unemployed which make its hard to buy tools materials but LJ's is my mancave if you will. I long for the day when I can have my own shop and be half as as talented as you guys. by the you guys alway crack me up with your humor to the point that the wife looks at me laughing and says are you on that WW site again. Thanks for everthing you guys do.
