Making the Bids Eye Dinning Rm. Table

Hi Everyone,

Apparently the dining room table came up in the rotation, because a few comments were made yesterday.

Instead of adding a blog regarding it's construction, I'll just post this link to my website, which covers the details in depth.

Part one

http://www.prowoodworkingtips.com/Build_A_Dining_Room_Table.html

There are three parts, which are linked at the bottom of the page.

I hope you enjoy it.

That is a beautiful piece -very interesting leg design.

They actually also use this type of construction for office-cubicle-walls making it sturdy and relatively very light - of course, they don't use nice woods and veneers for those but just cover them with some cheap fabric.

Thanks for the link, that was some good reading - and the pictures were a nice topping!

Hi Joe;

You're welcome back in the shop anytime. I enjoyed your visit.

Thank you for the kind words.

And as I mentioned above in one of the responses, if you look in the dictionary under generous men, it more than likely has my brother in law's picture there.

Hi Bob;

I haven't heard that expression in a coon's age. (whatever that is).

My mother used to tell me that when I was a kid.

Thank you for the compliment on the table, but there were times along the way, I wondered if I really knew what I was doing.

That thought was mixed in with "what did I get myself into this time?"

Thanks,

Lee

Obviously a beautiful and stunning table and you are generous in blogging about the process - Thanks Lee, I'm sure your brother in law is pleased! What was the final sealer you put on it - a poly used on car paint? - how did you apply it?

Hi Mark;

Thank you for the kind words.

He and his wife are happy with it, and it's clear it's one her prized possessions. She is still not using it, but always shows it to visitors to her house. And if I'm there, she always mentions I'm the guy that built the table. She also saved for a couple years to be able to afford chairs for it, so I know she really loves it.

The finish is conversion varnish, which was brought up to the sheen desired using Macquire's (?) polishing compounds and an automotive buffer.

Thanks again;

Lee
