Big Green Egg Table Top

Hi All,

I am designing a table for my brothers Big Green Egg and the last thing I am thinking about is the top.
Most people, and my original idea, was to do it like a deck, where there will be a 1/8" gap between boards. My second thought is using tongue and groove boards.

Any insight/recommendations for either of these?

Thanks,
Chris

In my opinion it really is about how you want it to look and how much work you want to put into it. If the frame will allow for you to secure independent strips (such as on a deck) then that would certainly be the easiest way to go. Plus, if it will be in the rain, then that would allow water to drain through the gaps more quickly. On the other hand, if you prefer a solid top, then you could go with tongue and groove or just a simple butt joint glued with waterproof glue. It would certainly be attractive and probably easier to refinish since you would have mainly two large flat surfaces rather that lots of edges on the strips.

I know I didn't help any, but in the end it just comes down to what makes you happiest.
