I think I got a pretty good deal here… been checking Craigslist for the last couple of months, and found a Delta 28-276 14" bandsaw for $300. Went to see it and looked great to me. A guy who bought a business had a bunch of extra machinery in the deal. This saw is going for almost $600 new…. On a side note, he had some other GIANT bandsaws. This one had about 6 foot throat on it. The machine itself was about 12 feet tall. He also had some shapers with some very odd looking cutters. He wasn't even sure what they were used for.

I had read good and bad about this saw. Perhaps I got a "good" one, especially since most of the problems I read about were when the tool came out of the box.

I know most swear by the Timberwolf blade, but I had an itch to get this thing up and running, so I bought a Rigid 1/2" blade for $12. Took maybe 15 minutes to clean and tune up the saw… Dang, this thing works great! I haven't used a bandsaw since highschool (more than 20 years), and I can already see this is another tool that I wondered how I got along with out it (I'll tell you how, jigsaw + tons of sanding). It tracked without a problem, and was very simple to adjust.

Next stop, I need a deal on a lathe…

Nice find!! You might also consider upgrading the guides at some point. I have a set of Carter guides and I must say it makes an old bandsaw, 1968 Delta, cut better than you could believe.

Depending on the age of your saw, and the fact it was in a production environment, you might also consider looking at the shaft and upper wheel bearings. They are very easy to change and if nothing else will give you peace of mind knowing they are new.

Sometimes you fall into a good deal on CL. This looks to be one of them. Congrats to you!! I found my 1970 Rockwell/Delta 28-200 on CL a couple weeks ago for the same as you paid. Mine came with a riser block, new tires, new bearings, new 1HP Baldor motor and an Iturra resaw blade. I searched for months for this deal. You just have to be in the right place at the right time.

Sounds like a great deal to me!

Don't forget Woodslicer blades. I've been using them on my Delta for over 10 years. Check out my review here on LJ.
