One idea that comes to mind, and it may not be feasible, would be to mount a metal disc about 2" in diameter on the wall near the extent of the panel when opened. then mount a 1" dia. rare earth magnet on the back side of the fold out panel.
You could slightly recess the magnet. Not sure how to "pretty up" the disk on the wall.
If you research rare earth magnets, you'll find varying thicknesses and diameters and different shapes. Many are of a strength to keep the panel from sagging. An added bonus would be the magnet holding the panel open.
Also, you can get piano hinges that will hold a considerable amount of shear weight.
Pocket screws in the ends into the stiles is the best option. I'd glue the ends also.
