Start up

had more than enough scraps left over….made 2 glued panels….then got them to match each other…then a bit of bandsaw work, to do a few curves..

laying off the the left…had two others that seem wide enough to use as sides, without any glue ups…laid out for some dovetail pins..

Wood is 5/16" thick Ash. A bit of backsaw work, a bit of chisel work…

We have pins….used these to lay out the matching tails….then try to stay on the waste side of the lines…more chisel work…then a dry fit, to see how good, or badly things fit..

Hmmm, need more practice….got the next corner done..

getting a little better each time….also shaped a handle…

need to cut a tenon on each end…maybe round the edges a bit more…back was having "issues", didn't even clean the bench up..

Next time to the shop ( laundry Detail, again?) I need to do the other two corners, and chop two through mortises for the handle's tenons. Then see about a glue up? May build a set of dividers, sized to fit most TV Remotes, and add them? 5mm plywood bottom will get glued in place….

Stay tuned….( may also do a blog about that Front Porch rebuild, if anyone wants?)

Design change, then a PIP

Had to get this thing done…didn't have any trouble cutting pins…
Wood Logging Hardwood Brick Grass

Same as before…spaces for 4 tails..
Saw Wood Tool Handheld power drill Power tool

Was even trying out a new chisel…
Wood Brick Tints and shades Hardwood Wood stain

Even ran a plane across the side… to flatten a bit of cup going on..

Problem arose with cutting the tails….
Wood Nail Door Hardwood Metal

Grain direction…tails were snapping off, during the dry fits…finally decided to just buzz the dovetails off,,,and get out the nails and glue..

Cut a 5mm plywood panel to rough size, and glue that on….let this mess sit a while…while I made a few dividers…

Dividers get a notch….center divider then is notched to match, so it will slide down over the cross dividers…, once the rest of the glue was dry..

Cut a 3/4" dowel for length, drilled a pilot hole, and then countersunk for a screw…and installed the new handle…old one was looking way too clunky…bead of glue under the center divider, and clamp it in place..
Wood Gas Auto part Electric blue Metal

let this sit a day…take the clamps off, sand everything smooth…add a coat of stain…and we have a PIP..

End view..

Side view, with the brass nails…front and back sides were too thin for nails…
Wood Rectangle Flooring Hardwood Gas

Only had two nails needed pulled and restarted….we have just the nailpuller for that..
Hand tool Wrench Crosscut saw Wood Metalworking hand tool

And a screwdriver to drive 2 screws, for the handle…

Dropped this off at my Daughter's place, today…...it is now a caddy for a few larger jars of spices/ seasonings..

Meet & Greet friday, sent what was left of the Ash scraps home with the visitor…among a few other goodies… need to clear the decks…have a porch project coming up tomorrow…going to be a carpenter for a few days..

Will post as a Project? We'll see…thanks for watching the fun.

As the saying goes, there's always more than one way to skin a cat. Honestly, I think I end up having to fix/change/adjust/re-plan 80% of my projects once I get into them. Your tote turned out nicely. I especially like that you didn't use finish nails with no heads - looks more old-timey.
