...created a headache for me. I am making a small box using frame and panel construction. The frames are 1/2" square and the groove for the panels is 1/4" deep. I want to attach the lid with hinges, but the hinge screws will then be screwed through the frame into the panel. This seems like it would create problems down the road. There is room for the panels to expand and contract into the bottom rail, however. Should I make a new rail (the original has already been mortised for the hinges) and just have the top sit into the box? Could I epoxy the bright brass hinges in place with the screws ground off so they are only in place for appearance? Any other thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!
