These are my original design ideas for making my jewelry boxes. These diagrams may be a little confusing because I did not intended for them to be published. You guys are so nice, I had no choice but to share.

This design was prevously used for making cigar humidors. I don't have good pictures of them-sorry.
I have lots of detailed instructions for every step to make this box. Just ask and I'll add more to this blog.

The rough cut diagram shows the sequence the sides are to be joined. This is to make the wood grain appear to wrap around the box.

I have played a bit with vacuum forming curved lids like that. I agree, it is not easy. Do you have any pics or info on how you made your form? And how you held the top square on that form? Or did you trim the curved top after it had been pressed?

Hey SPalm, there you are! I was looking around to find you. You are asking for some of my best secrets. Ok, you got me, I'll tell you. There are several little tricks to get this to work out.
1. Spray with veneer softner from http://www.joewoodworker.com/policies.htm.
2. Flatten the veneer on the form between dry paper sheets, @ change the sheets.
3. Roll the veneer flat and keep in the press over night.
The veneer will be perfectly shaped and smooth if you did it right.

To hold the veneer square. Make tick marks on the center of the veneer and align them the center line tick marks on the form. To hold the laminent pile together, tack in place with a small brad on both ends. I have a picture of this.

I trimmed the veneer after a couple of days to be sure the glue cured. I used my bandsaw with an 18 tpi blade. I also taped the outfeed slot to act as a zero clearance insert.
