So I've been playing around with Sketchup this afternoon and I am a bit stuck. I came across a design for a writing desk top that I really liked, but my problem is that I cannot figure out a good base for it to sit on. I came up with this design, but I am not happy with it because it doesn't fit with my normal aesthetic. It feels a little too much on the modern side and box-y. (Dimensions: 40Ă—20x30) Any suggestions?

I like it, though the cross pieces might be too dramatic. if you were to have straight down legs, it would have kind of an arts and crafts look. you could also do tapered legs to make the eye move up and down. Very cool that you're open to ideas.

I would go with square legs, maybe tapered a bit and then an apron around them under the desk and then lower tie braces across the back and on the sides.

With these suggestions and from some other people I consulted, here is the current rendition. I like it better, but something still isn't quite right with it.

That one's not bad but those 4 corner block things aren't doing much for me as they are there. They don't seem to be part of the flow of the desk, more like they're fat C clamps to keep the drawers from falling off. Maybe if I saw it at another angle I would change my mind.
Here's something a little similar, classic and modern looking, although the legs are kinda large. Maybe slim them down a bit?
