For the last week or so i’ve been in north topsail beach along the north carolina coast on vacation. So me my dad adrian, uncle greg, stepmom barbie, and aunt karen were just wandering around the streets of wilmington NC when we stumbled upon a woodworking shop.So like any woodworker would have,we went in.The place

We had a great visit. These guys are putting a lot of heart into this program. Its great to see a group of woodworkers reaching out to the community and making a difference. They have a very nice set up (sorry, I forgot the camera.) They have about 8 or so Jet mini lathes (which Jet provided them,) a full size Jet lathe, a Sawstop cabinet saw and have even set up an “arts” area that the kids can paint or finish their projects. Most of the projects are pens that the kid have turned. They have a number of the projects for sale and the kids get most of the proceeds (I think the guide said they kept $6 dollars of the sale to help pay for the pen kits and wood. They receive a lot of funding from area grants and have even gotten the attention of the govenor’s office.

They have small peice of the teak deck from the battleship North Carolina which is on display right across the river. They had someone donate time on a laser and they take each 3”x 6”x1/8’ peice and burn in a picture of the ship with the name across it. I picked one up for $10, its a great cause and a good bunch of guys.

I even had the oppportunity to share Lumberjocks with them (I was wearing my Lumberjocks tshirt.) When I get down here again, I will plan on spending a day with them and meeting the kids.
