Advice on slimming down the base of my walnut hall table build? - 7 replies

The hall table I’m building came out a bit clunkier/boxier than I was hoping. Any magical ideas to make the base appear more delicate? I’ve broken all the edges and put an 1/8” round over on the outside corners of the legs. It helped but still not where I’d prefer it to be. Also, top isn’t to final cut or shaped. Help. Please. Thanks!

Base dimensions for 84" media/record player console - 7 replies

Looking for some guidance on dimensions for the base of this record player console. It’s one of the larger/longer builds I’ve made and want to make sure it doesn’t have any weak points. The piece will hold records albums on the bottom, knick knacks in the middle shelf, and hold a record player/misc decor on the top. The case...

Finish/wood selection for mid century console - 8 replies

I’m building a mid century console table and trying to decide on which wood/finish to use to satisfy the customer request to complement a new mirror that will go above it and/or the surrounding furniture. My first suggestion was walnut veneer ply but customer says it’s darker than they prefer though like the grain characteristics....

Seeking opinions on finish for mid century dining chairs - 1 reply

Our neighbors gave us a set of midcentury dining chairs that were in pretty rough condition. I disassembled them, sanded to bare wood, cleaned up epoxy/glue from previous attempts at patching, and replaced/reglued the dowel joints. Now, I need to decide on a finish… The chair bases are oak, though I think some parts are another species ...

Should I be concerned with racking in this standing desk design? - 12 replies

I’m building a 44” tall maple/steel standing desk with steel H frame legs (photo below) that measure out to be 39.25” tall and 24” wide. Legs are made out 1.5”x1.5” steel tube. The table top will be 48” x 28” x 1.75” maple butcher block top and there will also be a 1.25” maple panel/...

How should I fix this extension wing on my tablesaw? - 13 replies

I purchased this Sawstop off Nextdoor and the previous owner attempted to route out a space for a router insert but it was left unfinished with crooked lines, etc. Unusable. Is there a way to essentially “fill” or repair it and start from scratch? I’d like to install my own insert. It’s MDF with a phenolic top. I...

How do you suggest I fasten maple to the frame of this storage bench for a seamless look? - 6 replies

My initial thought is to countersink, glue, screw, and conceal screws with matching plugs. I’m afraid it won’t allow for proper wood movement though. I live in an area that doesn’t have wild seasonal shifts so feel a bit better about that. But I am taking precautions when milling before it’s time to assemble; acclimate st...

My last hope - What would cause my board to rock side to side after jointing? - 13 replies

Issue: After running stock through my 6” Jet (dovetail ways), it comes out with an ever so slight rock along the width of jointed side of the board. You can press down on either side of the stock and both sides reveal a sliver of a gap along the length it. The stock is flat length wise, as in no snipe, bowing, etc. It’s noticeable bu...
