A lots happened since I’ve last logged in.
June of 2016 I visited the maritime museum in Portsmouth UK. I was so impressed by their rope-making machine that I took three pictures of each of the two machines used to make rope. Once I returned home I proceeded to reverse engineer the photos into ten pages of mechanical drawings. Here are the results of those drawings.

As a long time volunteer of the Los Angeles Maritime Institute (LAMItopsail.org), I use these machines to demonstrate to students how rope is made. Two students are paired up per demo. Once their rope is made, it is seized in the middle and each end and cut into two pieces. Each student takes home a piece of rope that they themselves have make.
Watch the demo to my fellow staffers.

The fist two photos are of the Portsmouth UK machine.
