  1. Old English Farmhouse Dining Table

I make 4-8 of these a month. Various color and woods. This one has an antique white over medium gray distressed base with a solid ash top. Top is finished with 1 coat of emtech sealer and 3 coats of emtech 6000. The base has 2 coats of 6000 over the paint. Credenza and bench to match. The chairs...
  2. Custom 35" dia. coffee table

Here is a custom coffee table I recently completed. The top is 35" in dia., made from solid 6/4 white oak. The base is made from 1" thick HDF, covered with 2 layers of 1/8" bendy-ply, then veneered in white oak. Finished with GF black Enduro poly along with 2 coats of flat Enudro clear poly.
  3. Airplane Rocker (Thanks to Herbiej)

About a year ago fellow LJ Herbiej posted this project and I ask if he would tell me where he got the pattern. He actually made the pattern from an old toy he found and was kind enough to copy it and mail it the copy to me. Being a man of action I got right to work and a year later I finally...
  4. Swan Spoon O' Silver Birch!

Hello friends, I thank you kindly for all of your past comments on my Japanese Gift Box project, it is always great to hear from all of you. Thank you! This was a project I toyed with off and on the last 2 months and decided to finish it and share with the group. This was a small spoon that I...
  5. Ship Pipe

This is a tobacco pipe I made from briar. Took a few days carving and polishing.
  6. Jewelry Display Commission…or my haunted Halloween project from Hell

Cabinet to display a wedding gift from Groom to Bride of a 10 strand pearl necklace and earrings. Way too much work for the fee. The client wanted wenge on a walnut budget. My original intention was to stain and then finish with toned shellac. I packed the pores on the back panel with BLO and...
  7. Nic's change box-AKA the Pillow Topped Box

This was a present for my step-son Nic. Now it holds his tip change. Tiger Maple pillow top, figured walnut sides. Incra-jigged box joints. Hinges are Beall's Nonpareil quads, installed using the Beall Hinge Wizard. Finish is Target Coating's waterborne Oxford Ultima Spray Lacquer with a Zinsser...
  8. Power Tools, Hardware and Accessories
OK, so I got the sprayer, next I'd like to get some waterborne finish - probably GF in a pint size to run some tests. All manuals suggest to strain the finish into the cup, but I cannot find any mesh strainers anywhere, looked at LV, Rockler, and Woodcraft and Amazon. Where do you guys get you...
  9. Finishing
I just bought a Fuji mini-mite 3 HVLP system and I'm dying to use it. If I could only find the finish I'm looking for… I cannot find water borne pigmented lacquer (white) locally in Austin. ML Campbell doesn't have a distributor in Austin. Sherwin Williams stores in Austin don't carry Aqua KEM...

Know your wood #1-Cherry Most people only talk about grain at the most superficial level of how it looks. We woodworkers enter the fibres. We tease the cells apart with the chisel's edge and search for weaknesses and strengths in the species. We want to know these intimate details so we can...

  12. Finishing
I have an earlex 5500 and I am trying to spray waterborne lacquers (both pigmented and clear) but I am getting a poor finish quality. I have used the gun on solvent-borne products without any issues but I am really struggling to get a good finish with waterborne finishes. The finishes are...

I have some fir burls and crotches that were too much trouble for the firewood pickers to take. Has anyone ever heard of using this part of fir for anything of value? I usually avoid fir for everything but framing because it may leak pitch any time it takes the notion. I have a 32" chain saw...
  14. Site Help and Suggestions
Not that I want to start a fire here, but I saw this in a previous topic but the link was dead. I think we should have some kind of posting limit. This morning I posted a project and within about 2 or 3 hours it was flooded off the front page by someone who posted 13 projects all at once. I was...
