Here are a few votive candle holders. One set is made from plywood, walnut and oak scraps and the other set is poplar. They are finished with wipe on poly.
  2. It was a very LumberJocks Christmas!

Lots of handmade gifts this year and LumberJocks inspired all of them! Picture 1 is a composite of all of them Picture 2 is of the cutting board my youngest son (19) made for his GF. It is made with cherry, a couple different oaks, mahgoany and walnut. The technique is outlined in my blog post...

All the candle holders are created using the scrollsaw and patterns purchased from Sheila Landry (scrollgirl). The first three are made from 1/2" hickory, the 4th holder is 1/2" aromatic cedar, and the last holder is 1/2" poplar. All the holders have been finished with Danish Oil and they are...

  7. Log Cabin Rustic Juniper Candle Holder

This votive candle holder is made out of 100% juniper. I don't believe I have seen coloring such as this with the dead juniper, I really love the way the wood grain really shows. This is one of my favorite pieces, not so much from the shape, but from the coloring. It measures, 19" L 6"T 13"W...

  9. Candle Holder

This is my first attempt at a candle holder. Made with black walnut and curly maple. Finished with an oil/varnish blend, topped with shellac and rubbed out with steel wool. I found some pretty good figure in the piece of walnut and thought this would be a great way to highlight it.
  10. Other 3 of 9 votive candle holders

Second phase of my friend's daughter's request for nine votive candles that were "out of the ordinary". In these three, she wanted flat pieces that the votive candles would just rest on. She didn't want me to drill holes for the candles because later on she wants to turn them into wall hangings...
  11. Candle Votive

A fun little project for the wife. Inspired by one of Keifer's projects (http://lumberjocks.com/projects/52006). It's 6" x 17" by 5" tall. Book matched cocobolo, highly figured (fiddle back?) maple (top trim and legs) and less figured (wavy) maple for the half lapped stringers underneath...
  12. BEND WOOD VOTIVE STAND

Had some time today and bend up another piece for my steam bend box and it is just like watching tar dry on a driveway and waiting to drive on it . Well I had some bend wood pieces that cracked near the ends and I could not see them go to waste, a look in the scrap bin and I had all the...
  13. VOTIVE CANDLE HOLDER

This was just finished yesterday (3/13/14), but was supposed to be a Christmas gift in 2012 (sad, I know). It is Cedar and some dark wood that was given to me. That wood shimmers in the sunlight and smelled like soap when I cut it. Maybe you all could help me out with that. I will call this...
  14. Star Votive light

This was started as a total "scrap" project that I have remade a few times. The first was a gift for my mother-in-law a couple of Christmases ago. I made several square votives with tealights that had two star panels and two plain panels. I cut up several at a time and ended up with an odd...
  15. Votive Candleholder

Do you ever have a day when you go into the shop with no idea what you are going to work on? That was me this morning. I knew I had some scrap Morado and Birch lying around so I grabbed a pencil and pad and came up with the design for this Votive Candleholder. A very simple design but the...
  16. Walnut Votive with Malachite Inlay

Hey again, this came out of a 3×5 1/2×40 chunk of walnut with some burly grain at one end. I decided to create a fun gift for Christmas (on sale at the gallery!) and so incorporated Malachite and Gold Mica into an inlaid rim, and then added both a red and green (buyers gets both) glass votive.
  17. Wine Stave Votive

We lucked out on some beatiful oak wine barrel staves while out wine tasting a few months ago. Along comes the monster-in-law's birthday, and the next thing I know, I'm wrestling with a 2" forstner bit and keeping the darn thing level on my little drill press. A coat of Minwax Classic Oak oil...
  18. Candle Holder

I really enjoy looking at all the different versions of the Woodsmith Shop candle holder, so I decided to make one for my sister's birthday. This project gave me a good excuse to try working with purpleheart. Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures after the finish was applied. Made this out of...

  20. Candle Holders 2nd Try

I had made a few candle holders last christmas as gifts and even though they turned out nice, I felt that I could do better. So after the first of the year, I worked on a new design with a little more character. It was also an opportunity to try out my new band saw. The first picture is...
