  1. The Buck Stops Here.....USS Harry S Truman

Onboard USS Harry S Truman, we routinely quote "The Buck Stops Here". I was asked to make something simple that has a little meaning to the ship. This is my interpretation of the sign that President Truman had on his desk. I made 21 total. I used ambrosia maple and sapele.
  2. Aircraft Carrier and F/A-18 Hornet Challenge Coin Display

I made this one out of Sapele and a touch of maple for the canopy. In the past I have used the actual wings worn on our uniforms but I decided to try carving…..I am very pleased with the look. I finished up with a few coats of Arm-R-Seal with light sanding between coats. She is ready to...
  3. F/A-18 Gun Barrel Plaque

This one is made of ambrosia maple, walnut and paduke. It is fairly heavy so mounted with a French cleat.
  4. USN CPO Shadowbox

Asked to make a unique Shadowbox for a CPO retiring. This is the design we agreed on. Cherry wood. 36" tall.
  5. USN Shadow Box

Shadow box built for my father who spent 21 years in the United Sates Navy. The exterior is painted haze gray to match the color of the ships and is outline with some names on ships that he serve on. The back material was cut from on of his utility shirts that he wore while he was active.
  6. Wine Barrel Old Glory with mounted F/A-18 Hornet

I love making flags from old wine or whiskey barrels but I needed something to amp this one up a little. I added a Sapele F/A-18 Hornet and seems to be a nice finishing touch. Fly Navy.
  7. Multi-Layered US Navy Plaque

After noticing that one of my new neighbors comes home daily in blue fatigues, I quickly realized he was a sailor (as the Navy is the only branch with blue fatigues). Being a former sailor myself, I decided I wanted to welcome him into the neighborhood with some sort of Naval plaque. This is...
  8. US Navy EA-18 Growler

The wood shop smells of red wine after cutting up old wine barrel staves. I love to repurpose old wood and enjoy creating something totally new. This Growler is 27 inches long and 22 inches wide. I left rough instead of putting a clear coat on so I can smell the wine. My NY's plan is to start...
  9. Corn Hole Boards

New Cornhole boards for the Chiefs at Naval Submarine Support Command, Pearl Harbor, HI. First pair of boards I've ever built and I am happy that they turned out better than expected. I transferred the NSSC PH emblematic using #Modpodge image transfer. This stuff works great!
  10. Bos'n Pipe Display

I retired from the Navy this February. As part of my retirement ceremony I was "Piped Over the Side", a Navy tradition. A BM2 blew the ceremony. Afterward, as we were talking he presented me with the white knotted lanyard that held his pipe, the first lanyard he made. He also mentioned he had...
  11. US Navy Anchor

I made this as a gift for a Navy Veteran. It was awesome practice with my scroll saw as well as finishing techniques. It measures roughly 10"x18". The anchor is made from an old pine 1×12 and rounded with a 1/4" roundover bit. The USN is made from some newer pine to give it some contrast...
  12. Finishing
Just wanted to make a quick post to pass along my experience and tips spraying General Finishes milk paint with my HVLP. I just finished building a crib for my first child. The wife wanted it painted so I used 6/4 poplar and so far it looks great. I'll post project once I'm done. I used my...
