  2. Birdhouse Projects

These all became Christmas gifts for my family and co-workers. I don't think any of them have birds in them…But I think they kind of look good. The stained ones are rough cut cedar and the painted are pine. The roofs are removable so you can mount them or clean them out if you ever got a bird...
  3. Seven-Day Chest

I built this seven-day chest for my grandson, who was born back in November, 2010. May daughter-in-law has a similar chest that was made by her grandfather, and she thought it would be nice for her son to have one built by his grandfather. The case and drawer fronts are white oak, the panels are...

This cutting board is made from a Rock Maple center, and outlined with Cherry.
  5. Mothers Day Cedar Trestle Table

I followed Chris schwarzs' plans for the trestle design except I lowered the stretcher. My mom picked out the eastern red cedar boards 6-7 months ago and I finally finished it. The base is southern yellow pine. Primed and painted with sherwin Williams shade grown green. I made a little lazy...
  6. Bow Front Dresser and Mirror

Unfortunately I couldn't get better pictures of this piece due to the room size. It is a bow front dresser with dowled drawers. The mirror hangs directly on the wall above it with a hidden cleat. The drawers are maple, the rest of the piece is mahogany, and the top is sapele.

  9. Designing Woodworking Projects
OK I don't even pretend to be able to do anything in sketch up, here is what happened. I designed a set of book cases (5 total) that are floor to ceiling so I did a rendition of them in sketch up just to see what they may look like and get an idea of material cost. Then I did a kitchen because...

What I have and What's Next! Hello and welcome to my first Blog! The intent of this blog is to track my entrance into the world of woodworking. There seems to be a gap between the people who are just getting into woodworking, and those who have been enjoying the hobby for ten years. So, this...

What's old again is new again I"M BACK! Sorry - I should not have shouted so loudly. I've been lurking in the background for quite some time and have from time to time posted a stray comment or two. But I've not been very active in actual woodworking for quite some time. I have had some...

Possible Inlay Project - Suggestions?? So, I am in the process of a myriad of "home" projects (shelves in kids rooms, re-finishing painted furniture, attic shelves, etc…), and have been spending my free time trying to figure out my next project. I am big on "form follows function", so I want...

Sketchup - I'm glad I took the time to learn it. I admit, I had a heck of a time when I first started with Sketchup; I was not getting it - and I have been working with software for 20 years. But I saw the value in Sketchup. I could create my own WW plans, and manipulate them like crazy to...

  18. Designing Woodworking Projects
I completed a Morris chair this weekend using the plans that were posted on another Jock's project post. I was able to get through it, but the instructions were hard to decipher in some places, at least for me. So I took out Sketch Up and illustrated the build where I thought things were a...
