  1. Projects Caution sign for 1855 house

I needed to make a sign for the old 1855 historic house that I take care. I borrowed the leg design from a 1905 stained glass lamp that I made a couple of years ago......except I scaled the length of the 2 legs from 12 to 16" to give it more stability when supporting a sign that is 48 inches...
  2. Projects New Sign

I recently found out a sign I made last year was not incorrect, because of new research on the old house. Got to make a new sign today with the correct year the house was built, and the right type of architecture. For more details on this project, use this link to see my woodworking web site...
  3. Projects Logo sign

My daughter and I rented a little space at a local consignment store. We decided that I should make a sign for the booth, so here it is. Maple board with some mica colored epoxy for the logo and words. About 24" across.
  4. Freehand Router Fun..

Here's my 3 attempts at making signs. The first one is for a friend's shop. The second is one I made for my house. The third is for another friend who has just completed a "sitting area" behind his house which he calls "Serenity". These were all done with a down spiral 1/4" bit and a 2 1/4 hp...
  5. Brew House Signs - Christmas Gifts

Two of my son-in-laws make beer as a hobby. I thought a sign would make a nice Christmas present. I used a CNC machine to carve the text and the 3D beer mug models. Text is painted with blue acrylic paint. Wood is mahogany finished with two coats of hand rubbed poly. Hope everyone has a Merry...
  6. Rugged Sign Semi-Freehand

A friend of ours has a small "hobby" farm and has been very kind to let my three kids go over to play and pet the animals. She has a full time job, two kids and a husband to take care of so to stop everything to let my wife and kids come by to play was, I think above and beyond. So I wanted to...
  7. Some more things I've made

All from scrap wood things I do to keep me out of trouble inbetween real projects, and it makes me some spending money since most things like this I send to the consignment shop.
  8. Sign for the new toy.

Hi guys I am not posting any boards till I have them all finished .. nearly 60 now,... more in the blog,,, but I did finish this sign. Large slab of Camphor Laurel that I found under a pile of recycled Silky Oak when I cleaned up the yard around the shed. It was the ugliest slab you could...
  9. and another one...

So, it appears I am a sign maker (at least for the moment) After posting my other sign, I got a few requests to do similar work. For project #2 I have made a sign for my Mom's pizza place (if you are near St. Mary's Ohio, you should stop in, they make an excellent pizza among other things!)...
  10. Lighted engineering sign

I made this sign for a friend of mine out of pine, oak, poplar, and bloodwood. I burned the inside of the letters with a blowtorch and then coated them with epoxy. I finished the whole thing with shellac. The lighting is a recessed led strip. Here is a video of the build.
  11. First Try with Dremel Router

Here is my first try at router woodworking. Used an old Dremel 400 XPR that I have used around the garage for grinding, cutting, and polishing. Thought I would give routering a try. The old raised grain weathered wood was quite the challenge for the 1/8" router bit. But, I think the jagged...
  12. Cedar Sign

I was commissioned to make this sign for a customer in Texas who's newborn daughter was born premature and has been in and out of the hospital for the last year. The little girl's name is Remington but everyone just calls her "Remi". I was given freedom on the design all they requested was that...
  13. Sign-In Board

This is a sign-in board that I did for a Bar Mitzvah for my son who is a skater boy. The body is made of cherry, maple scroll/Torah with cocobolo spindle accents. 5 skateboard blanks with brass screws and finishing washers were used to be the white space to sign-in on. The whole piece was...
  14. "Give Me a Sign"

This sign was something I have been needing for a long time and it is really just great. I was going to get one of those sign making kits and still probably eventually will but I decided that I would fist give freehand a shot. I used Cherry I think, some wood that my grandma found at her local...
  15. Welcome Sign - Xmas Present

Here is a welcome sign that I made for my grandmother for Christmas.
  16. Saving a "ghost" advertising sign

Last August, I volunteered to repaint one of our small town's old building advertising signs that is 68 feet wide and about 24 feet high. It was originally painted sometime before 1934. One of the challenges on this project was the big missing letter "I" in Occident. I went online, and found a...
  17. Assorted Christmas Gifts

Nearly all Christmas gifts I gave this year were homemade. The box (last picture) I did not make, it is from a craft store - I engraved the lid and my wife did the paint infill. I almost had a hard time giving up the oak mallets - they are so much nicer than the first one I made, which is the...
  18. New House Number Sign

A small project I have been wanting to do for a long time. It is made it from poplar. I planed the numbers and the outer trim down to 1/4" then found some numbers online that I liked and printed them out. I then took the numbers I printed out, used some spray on adhesive on them and cut out...
  19. Anniversary sign for my Sister

I made this for my favorite Sister, well she is my only sister. It's made out of Maple wood, for Maples, LOL. I carved it on the X-Carve CNC Router, stained it with Minwax Gunstock finish, painted the lettering with Black craft and sprayed a couple coats of Matte Clear finish. Thanks for...
  20. Getting ready for the Sept. 6 show.

Here are some of my favorites. The humming bird and morning glory is a popular one. Anybody need a sign on their outhouse? Don't want someone to mistake it for something else.
