  1. Projects Segmented Bowl for Turning Swap

This was my entry for the 2023 LJ’s Turning Swap. I’ve never done a segmented bowl, but I kind of had an idea what I wanted to do with it. As the idea evolved, I had the idea to add some epoxy and create sort of flowers or Lolly pops (or something) up the sides of the bowl. In retrospect, lining...

This is a segmented platter I made from scraps that were going to the kindling box… There are several woods in this project; Ash, Oak and Walnut. Its diameter is about 14" and it makes for an interesting serving tray. My lathe is a cheapie cheapo from Harbor Freight but it serves the purpose and...

  8. My very first Segmented bowl

I've been itching to try one of these for a couple of years now and finally convinced myself that I could do it last week. My first 5 or 6 attempts at cutting segments did not go well but finally I got the angle right. My equipment is obviously not as accurate as I thought. I made 4 X 12 segment...

I used a cutting board glue up to cut segments for a bowl, and the outcome was pretty interesting. The wood is padauk, movingai, caribbean rosewood, and a little maple. Thanks for looking, George

This is a bowl that I made using my Ringmaster. The woods are Rosewood, Paduak, Maple and Ash. It measures 6 inches in diamater and about 4 inches tall. I hope that one day I can create bowls like this on my lathe one day.
  12. First Segmented Turning

Segmented bowl made using Walnut, Sapele and Padauk. First try didn't turn out perfect since only the outside ended up smooth. Candy bowl Christmas present for my grandma.

Second attempt turned out much better, although a couple joints still show. Maple, walnut and sapele woods finished with butcher block oil. Another X-mas present for my other grandma.
  14. Segmented Bowl - Getting Better...

My brother is getting married on Saturday, and as a wedding gift I made him my second segmented bowl. The bowl is 11 inches wide, and approx 4 inches tall. The first one I made was too tall and not wide enough. I like these dimensions a lot better. All layers except the feature layer have 12...
