  1. Dovetail Saw and Bit Driver for the Winter 2017 Tool Swap

This is the swap tool set I made for ki7hy for the Fall/Winter 2016 Lumberjock's surprise swap. It is a 9-inch dovetail saw with about 2-inch depth of cut. The saw plate is .020-inch spring steel, 15 points per inch, filed rip cut. There is about a 1/8-inch to 3/16-inch taper to the plate. The...
  2. Wooden Handle for a Screwdriver

Lately, I've been on a tool making/modifying/repairing kick. Tonight, I was just puttering around the shop (that's code for - waiting for glue to dry). I have always wanted some nice wooden handled screwdrivers. There is just something about the feel of wood in your hands as opposed to...

  5. Screwdriver Set

I made two sets of these screwdrivers - one for myself and one that I will give my Dad for Christmas. Turned from curly and crotch black walnut and finished with 5 or 6 coats of lacquer. Screwdriver shanks came from Lee Valley (http://www.leevalley.com/US/wood/page.aspx?p=64983) James
  6. Home made screwdriver

I didn't like too many of my screwdrivers for doing woodworking, so I took matters into my own hands. I turned the wood from scrap, of which the origin and type of wood is uncertain, however it appears to be porous the way oak is, but not smell like oak. I had the shape to where I wanted it...
  7. Oak-handled screwdriver

An oak-handled screwdriver. I'm not very pleased with the ferrule fit…I had a last minute design change sorta forced on me so I lost the shoulder. Ah well….
  8. Perfect handle screwdriver rehab.

My daughter picked this up ay a yard sale this summer for 1.00. The last third of it was bent about 30 degrees , full of rust and the scales were in pieces. This was one of those in between other projects project. The scales came from the ash i cut down in my back yard because of those pesky...

These are the screwdrivers I made for my Dads festiva present. The tips and brass ferrules are from Lee Valley and the screwdrivers tips look really good. The darkest, standard tips are made of Leburnum, Robertsons are Black Locus and the Phillips are Arbutus. The stand is made of Walnut and...
  10. Old screwdrivers re-handled DIY (recycle).

Old screwdrivers re-handled nice trick against plastic allergy… Intro: As some fellow LJ's I suffer from the wood fever, this means that when I use a plastic handled tool I don't get the same pleasure as when I use a wooden handle. I don't get red spots, I don't get fever, I don't even go to...
  11. Laminated screwdriver

Laminated screwdriver made with oak, poplar and walnut.
  12. Screwdrivers and Marking Tools

As the title of the post suggests, the latest swap was screwdrivers and marking tools. Since I don't have a lathe to make handles for the obvious entries, I decided to make a trifold bit index that I came across in the Woodsmith plans. It holds both drill bits and the various driver bits. It...

  14. screwdrivermarking tool swap

How do you make a screwdriver without a lathe, hmmm. seems there are a LOT of ways to work wood down to something close to a round shape. I tried many of them, and came up with the following. I started with several small billets of curly Maple, and Walnut. I never actually measured them, but I...
  15. Screwdriver/marking tool swap 2022

First I have to give Devin T credit for the first two pictures great work!!. And yes for this 2022 Screwdriver Marking Tool Swap my package went to Devin T a multi-talented maker. As this was a Screwdriver swap first, the initial piece was screwdriver with a ratcheting drive. It was a bit tight...
  16. Walnut Screwdriver handles with Lee Valley Shanks

I got these Lee Valley shafts about 2 years ago as a gift but had been struggling with how to make the handles. Well I picked up an inexpensive lathe and this is the first project completed on it. The handles are based off Darnell's handles. He has an excellent how to on how he made his...
  17. Swiveling Screwdriver Shelves

Made these two swiveling screwdriver shelves to help keep my bench free of tools. The idea was from a CD that came with a sample Woodsmith magazine. Made from leftover maple hardwood flooring. The factory finish is holding up well :)
  18. More Screwdrivers

More Screwdrivers. Unable to repair the broken mahogany screwdriver I made last Dec., I was able to salvage all the metal components and refabricate a new screwdriver (three actually). One out of maple (from the neighbors Civil-war era Maple), and two out of cherry, (right off the firewood...
  19. offset turned screwdriver handle

This was my first attempt at offset turning. I think it came out pretty good, the handle has a nice oval shape that feels good in your hand. Wood is sapele, I had a couple of scraps that I glued together. Ferrule is just a piece of copper pipe. Finish is Behlen's woodturners finish.
  20. Screwdrivers for Christmas

For Christmas, we draw names with my siblings and their spouses rather than trading gifts all around. This year, I drew my brother so was glad to have to the chance to make him something useful. I was also glad to have the opportunity to make another set of screwdrivers using the Grace USA...
