  1. Walnut Jewelry Box

This is a jewelry box I made for my daughter as a graduation gift. The wood is walnut and bloodwood. It measures 14 inches wide, 9 inches deep and 6 inches tall. I found the project in the October 2005 (issue 165) of Wood Magazine. The finish is several coats of lacquer.

  5. Boxes for Christmas

These are some of the boxes I have built and had around the house; I put them as a collection to show the different colors I've worked with.. The boxes are quite simple but the exotic woods make them interesting. The padauk box has a walnut top with curly maple inlay. The canary box has a...
  6. Tri-Peaked Bowl

I saw this design and decided to give it a try; I glued up some scrap wood and turned it. The finished shape looked good so I stained it and covered it with three coats of polyurethane varnish. I plan to try turning one in purpleheart but have not found the time yet. Notice how the shape...
  7. Large Cedar Bowl

A cedar tree was cut down on my sister in-laws property and she offered me the wood. I made her a bowl to thank her and I made my wife one because she liked it so much. We like that the fact that there is still bark on it and a hole that runs through the wood; it adds a rustic touch. We fill...
  8. Potpourri Bowl

This is a gift I made for my mother. It is made from purpleheart and measures 3" tall and 5" in diameter. The finish is polished water varnish. I purchased the potpourri lid from The Woodturners Catalog.

These are two of my earliest segmented bowls; I was going for light and dark contrast. The first bowl is purpleheart and ash and the second bowl is walnut and maple. The finish is polished water varnish.

  12. Woodworking Skill Share
Greetings all. Just joined LJ. Thanks all for the welcome. A neighbor is residing her home and has a bunch of nice actual 1" tongue-and-groove rough redwood siding that she's getting rid of. Is there anyway to effectively clean this up? It's very clean - no rusted nails/screws - but I've always...
  13. Wood & Lumber
I cut on the small sawmill Eastern red cedar boards that are about 14' long, 16" wide and 2.5" thick. This is to make a dinner table (oval shape, long diameter about 10-11', short diameter about 5'). Out of the sawmill, the boards are neither really flat, nor are the edge true or 90 degree...

For the life of me I cant get my Perfomax 22-44 drum sander to be parallel to the conveyer table. ARRRGGGg! I'm beginning to think that its just an alternate reality that we will wonder about ,but never be apart of. Do any of you have any tips? And you thought I was going to start a topic...
  15. Power Tools, Hardware and Accessories
I just received my airshield and seem to have a problem with the fit of fabric shield that goes around my face. This is mostly at my right ear I cannot get a good seal unless I fold the fabric forward. The left side is not as bad but I find myself doing the same there. I called Trend and was...
  16. Wood & Lumber
So I'm thinking about building a horse tack trunk for my wife and I purchased a set of plans from Kyserike Kraftsman for $12 because it was cheap and the trunk he built looked amazing. In the plans he recommends Oak plywood and Oak boards for the chest. He doesn't give a cut list but I figured...
  17. Hand Tools
Hello everyone. This is only my second post but I'm hoping someone here can help me out. I just picked up a stanley no. 55 that's almost complete and came with all 4 sets of cutters. Stopped by a little mom and pop antique store and asked about hand planes and that was the only one they pulled...
