We had our big Christmas Show at the mall on the 8th and 9th of December. I had a couple of folks call after to get custom canes made. In this case the customer wanted a tapered cane with a handle to hold a Coast Guard coin in the end. When someone asks for a certain type of item I will usually...

  3. 7 inch dresser bowl from Dunnage

This piece of dunnage had a nice grain pattern. Sanded to 320 grit, 2 pound shellac, then polished on the Beall system. One stick of dunnage is roughly 2" x 3" x 36" or 1 1/2 board feet and makes one bowl roughly 7 to 8 inches in diameter… I've got 500 more pieces to go.
  4. Walking Stick handles from Curly Morare, Curly Movingui (dunnage)

I made some sample handles a few weeks ago for a gentleman who sells walking sticks. He called and asked for more so I turned these. Average time on the lathe from square blank to 320 grit sanded was 10 minutes. Some pieces were Curly Movingui or Curly Morare. I don't know the species of the...

It seems like the era of CRT based design cabinets are over. These cabinets are just too big & bulky to move. These type of furniture are often going cheap. I have just seen a walnut veneer plywood armoire solid walnut trimmings (non-production piece by a professional) for $40 and it is 1/2...

Most of us have suffered through the 'Cube' furniture craze of the '80s. In the backlane behind my house, a neighbor tossed a coffee/end table of this era, and after a few rainy days, it caught my eye. I brought it home…with an idea in mind. So, I set about to cut in a cavity in one side...

Background I have always been interested in punky wood, the discoloration and lines caused by the decomposition of the wood makes it much more interesting to me. And since I do a lot of work with repurposed wood, including firewood, it is part of what I get for raw materials anyway. So when we...

Aches, pains and pallet wood, oh my! Following its recent successful creation, I opted to give Franken-Rack free rein to terrorize the domain. It was my hope that it would bring home the finest lumber in all the land. Instead, it brought me pallet and crate wood. Several times I have berated...

Railroad Spike Coat Rack I recently completed this easy project and thought I would share the steps I took to make it.
