I'd like to refinish the table top of an Eames Desk that is in a pretty bad shape in one spot. I was wondering what the best steps would be to remove the old finish? What finish would work best to bring it back to its original look? I'm concerned that sanding down the top might be problematic...

Light colored kitchen table has a circular dark area approx 8" across caused by direct heat (pan). By the feel of it, some of the finish was burned off-not as glossy there anymore. I've done only a bit of woodworking/finishing, treat me as a beginner: Is this something that could be sanded and...

Hello! I am new here, so apologies for if this has been covered previously/I post in the wrong spot/etc… I am fairly new to serious woodworking (though I did many small projects with my dad growing up), and love the planning/build, can live with the sanding, and dread the finishing… mostly...

Hi all, I am new here, trying to help hubby who is having great difficulties with refinishing a MCM rosewood table. He has completed hundreds of refinishing projects quite successfully, never rosewood though. To cut a very long story short, he now has 2 - 3 layers of shellac on the table, plus a...

Last week, I bought an old piece of furniture. Seller claimed it was over 100 years old. Truth be told, I didn't really care. It was solidly built, and in reasonably good shape. With a little TLC, I thought it could be quite nice. This past weekend, I did some restoration. Frame is solid...

I built several tables for a local coffee shop a couple years ago. The owner of the shop recently contacted me and asked if I could add another coat of finish. I assume the tables are showing some wear and she wants them looking new again. I originally sprayed four coats of General Finishes...

I have a small antique business and often must refinish pieces. I am self taught and have gotten pretty good over the years repairing small veneer chips and removing scratches and fading from vintage furniture. My current problem is a rosewood desk that has an unknown stain I have not been able...

Hi All- I'm in the process of refinishing a door with a lovely stained glass insert that I bought in the New England area on facebook marketplace. The seller was under the impression that the door was as old as the house-that is mid-1800s-but who can be certain. I've mostly finished with...

I need to refinish an oak bowl that is coated in polyurethane. I tested a spare piece of oak with Citristrip, but it discolored the oak, darkening it with a dull brown-gray shade. Can anyone recommend a stripper that won't effect the oak's color or am I just stuck sanding the poly off? Thanks, -Matt

I don't have much experience with wood working but decided to refinishing some wood furniture with paint and polyacrylic. I completed at least 3 coats of polyacrylic left it to dry for nearly a week but it has now immediately been marked by the first things I have put on it. A cork coaster with...

Surface Preparation Ah… finally some woodworking at last. I don't really have any time or the mind space lately to focus on construction and creation much, and it felt like I was just collecting tools as of late. All with the preparation of 'one day' to be able to get to things. As it...

Neighbor's Coffee Table Martin called me. He is my neighbor. He asked how do you remove white rings on a coffee table. I said that I know white rings are easier to remove than dark or black rings. Let me look it up and I will send you a text with the answer. I found a YouTube video posted...
