  3. Eucalyptus platter

Eucalyptus platter that is 12 inches in diameter. If you look closely in the upper left hand quadrant you might see some holes from wood beetles. I finished this platter with 6 coats of hand rubbed tung oil, buffing between each coat with 0000 steel wool. The grain pattern in this piece was...
  4. Spalted Oak Bowls

These 2 bowls were turned green from a dying Oak tree that had been cut down and ready to be split as firewood and I asked if I could go through the pile and pick out the ones that I wanted. He charged me 5 bucks each piece of wood I picked out before they were turned into firewood. I think...
  5. Painted and Carved Cherry Platter

This 13" platter has a shallow center bowl that is about and inch and a half deep. The wide rim was painted and then carved in a pattern that is sunflower inspired. I didn't have much of a plan for the carving, and it seems that I need a little practice in that arena. It's generally in the...
  6. Maple veggie dish

There is some figuring in this piece of maple, but I thought it was stable, and it was, until I started cutting into it. Only when I got it thinner I found a small crack in the figured area. Thankfully the crack proved stable. It could be used without a dip bowl or with one that I bought at...

  9. Platter in Claro Walnut

This Claro Walnut came out almost prettier on the back side I'd chosen, than on the front! It is 12-1/2" in diameter and about 2" deep. I cut a small bead on the reverse to give it a bit of lift off the table top. Finished with Natural Danish Oil and carnuba wax.
  10. Construction Lumber Platter

This 8" platter was turned from a scrap of SPF 2×10 I had laying around the shop. I am just starting to play with dyes and coloring, and didn't want to use expensive hardwoods. The color is KEDA alcohol-based aniline dye, mixed with a bit of clear shellac (about 1 part shellac for 15 parts...

Practicing my wood turning skills with some walnut cutoffs I got from family friends. This wood was all to be firewood before i claimed it. Turned on my wife's grandfather's 1950's shopsmith as a lathe.
  12. Gnarly Live Oak Platter and Bowl

I don't post many of the bowls and things I turn but this piece of live oak had such an interesting grain that I could not resist. It came from a piece of crotch that had a really gnarly, twisted grain and some bark inclusions that left voids that I filled with a brass (platter) and bronze...
