  1. Raffle for Mason Dixon Banquet

For the last couple of years I've made the prizes for the raffle that is held at our annual banquet for the Mason Dixon Holiday dinner. I made 6 pens that will be in the raffle and Jack Dalton made a Candle Box out of Sapele wood. Jack posted a blog here. The pens are made from Mango that I...
  2. Fancy Wood Cane #024: Figured Pink Ivory & Purpleheart

I haven't seen much figured Pink Ivory and didn't realize this was figured as the saw blade markings disguised it. The markings are subtle but distinct as this one turned out to be pretty nice. The wood is extremely hard and dense and polishes up really nice. I only wish I had a piece of...
  3. Diva Pen Kit

Well this was one of several Diva Pen Kits from Penn state industries. This particular one is a clear crystal with a pink ivory pen blank. I do like the kits from Penn State Industries but am always shopping around for kits, blanks, etc. In any case, this kit was probably one of the easiest I...
  4. Coffee Scoop

Coffee scoop for my sister in law. Trying to get a jump on holiday presents this year. Made from pink ivory and finished with a wax/oil. First time i have worked with pink ivory, it is a cool wood if you have never turned it. This piece was reddish/pink on one side and more of a yellow on...
  5. Christmas Seahorse Box.

This in a second seahorse recipe box this year. It was given as a Christmas present to the daughter of the lady that received the first one. She loves seahorses also so I came up with a different design and has a laser engraver burn it in for me. It is Oak and Pink Ivory. She liked the oak of...
  6. Some nicer pens (and a mistake)

I'm fairly happy with how the first two of these came out. The first is an Amboyna Burl, which I really like working with. I need to get a bandsaw so I can buy burls in bulk for turning purposes. They look stunning when finished. The second is a Bocote fountain pen. Honestly, I can't...

Pink Ivory (Berchemia zeyheri), also called Red Ivory, is a very rare African wood. The Pink Ivory tree grows predominantly in Zimbabwe, Mozambique and South Africa, and is said to be sacred to the Zulu. The wood is extremely hard and exceptionally dense. It works well, and will hold fine detail...

  10. Pink Ivory Pen

Recent pen I made from Pink Ivory paired with a 24k gold slimline twist hardware kit. The wood turned beautfifully, very similar to Bloodwood. Finished with 5 coats of CA buffed to 12,000 grit. It took the finish extremely well, came out feeling more like an acrylic. Thanks for looking :)

  19. Too small for a cane

Pink Ivory, Ebony, & Walnut. I started this years ago and ran into a problem that I wasn't sure how to fix so put it aside then quit woodworking for 10 years. I was at my Mom's and saw it and brought it home with me figured out what to do to fix it and it's finished a cane that's sized for a...
  20. Logo Pens, a first try...

So, I have been envious of Kerux's logo pens ever since his first post. I finally set about finding the decal paper and clear coat and time to try a few. My first prototype taught me a valuable lesson. "Clear" doesn't mean permeable, so the clear logo set onto unfinished stock is not going to...
