  1. Shop Apron

Hello. This is my shop apron my sister and I made for myself. It is largely based off the large apron LeeValley sells. I have wanted an apron for a while now so that I could have some basic tools close at hand and keep my clothes protected from glue and finishes. The upper pocket holds two...
  2. Owls on a Line Scrollwork

This piece was ordered to be used as a "Thank You" present - I love doing projects for this purpose as it pleases more than just the client! :-) During the planning phase, I was told the person loved owls, so I found a bunch of images of them and we agreed on these "cartoony" styled owls...
  3. Soap Dish

Things I made on my summer vacation when I should have been installing insulation - part 2. Made Galoot style with nothing but a chisel and a hand saw from some Kwila decking offcuts which came in the wood pile I picked up last year.
  4. Old Tools.....New Life

This is a gate I built for my daughter. Kind of a rustic approach. All cedar. Mortise and tenon joints (glued and screwed). No finish to allow the cedar to age naturally like the tools. Stout hinges from the box store. Most are old tools that I needed to retire and some were found at...
  5. Driftwood Vase

I attended the So Cal Turner's Expo in Orange County, CA, in July. The Expo was a disappointment (focus was really pen turning), but I loved the tables of "found" wood laid out by OriginalFrisby (frisbystuff.com). He has collected driftwood, and other found wood, along the west coast for years...
  6. Old Woodworking Tools -brought back to life

I finally loacated a few of my old Log Cabin/Barn buiding tools. Some are still hiding. I'll dig them out one day soon. I have a collection of great paperback books by Eric Sloan. His drawings are so wonderful. If you ever get a chance to buy or get from a library, you will not be...
  7. Tie Dye Sushi Bowl

This is a sushi bowl in my tie dye series. It rests on macsur ebony. It is 8 inches in diameter. The technique is the same with the exception of the yellow interior of the bowl. I flashed the dye on the bare wood then laquered the piece.
  8. Sleigh

    Cedar, 10×7, finished in lacquer.
  9. Mansized keepsake / jewellery box in oak.

This is my entry for the 2008 Winter Awards. Its design grew from the small board of pippy/ burr/ burl oak that I'd had in the workshop for several years. I was loath to trim off either of the natural edges to hinge the lid in a conventional way, so decided to split it to open in this way...
  10. Wooden fishing reel for ice fishing.

There was a small old lathe for sale and I couldn't keep myself from buying it. After some short test runs I tried to build a simple wooden fishing reel. The shown reel is the secound reel, made some changes after the first attempt. Reel sides are made of birch plywood. All other parts are made...
  11. Walnut & Maple Blanket Chest

This is a walnut and maple blanket chest I just made. It was a wedding gift for some friends. The picture doesn't show it, but the maple on the handles is heavily figured. It is a modified example of plans from either Woodsmith or Popular Woodworking. I lost the plans a while back and can't...
  12. Maple Butcher Block Table

Well this project is now complete. All in all it turned out alright I think. Ran into a few snags here and there but its a learning experience sometimes. I really enjoyed making this butcher block table and have already started on some other butcher block and cutting board projects as well. As...
  13. Old School Toys

Been having fun the last few days working on some "old school" toys. Super simple, super rugged. I used some 3/4 birch ply I had on hand, but a 2×4 would do the trick just as well! Thanks for looking.

  14. Cherry Jewelry Box

Just made this cherry box to try a few new things in the build process. I have been experimenting with mixig my own hand rubbed finishes and I was pretty pleased with this formula. If you look at the last pic I made a ring pad for the left compartment. I took two pieces of 6mm craft foam and...
  15. Hand Tools
Okay, so this is a pretty cool piece of history here. Unsure of the maker or era, but I'm thinking early 1900s? The question is this: what do I do with it? I mean, I know what it is, and that it works. Lol. But do I do a full restoration, a partial, as in rebuild the cracked base and weak old...

  17. Marketplace Classifieds
Anyone in the Northeast Texas/ Southeast Oklahoma area wanting a old Craftsman Radial Arm Saw? I have an Accra-Fence from the late 60's (I believe) I picked up at an estate sale a cpouple years ago. It's setting on a metal cabinet with wheels and a locking door (have the key) Ran it a few times...
  18. Hand Tools
My wife and I went to an estate sale this morning and I got a hand saw, a splitting wedge and a saw set. I've done some looking around on the internet but haven't come up with any useful background info on them. The saw set has no markings on it, other than the number "2" inside the handle...
  19. Power Tools, Hardware and Accessories
Just read this tip and thought, "doh, why didn't I think of that?" I use an RSS reader for reading blogs, why not use it for looking for tools over time on Craigslist. http://frugalwoodworking.com/tool-shopping/craigslist-tool-hunting-tip/ I can see how it would be really useful for being the...
  20. Power Tools, Hardware and Accessories
I thought this was an amazing tool that I'd surely love to try!! It's like a combination of modern and traditional woodworking techniques; The ease of power tools mixed with the superior finish of hand tools. For lazy folks like me, it beats getting all sweaty using a jointer plane. The noise...
