  1. Inspired "Pen"dants and a pen

As I mentioned in my previous blog. I have startted to play a bit more and experiment at the lathe thanks to some recent postings by William. Here you see some of the outcomes of my recent experiments. Pic 1 is Holly with a Blue Dyed Veneer that I dyed. Same veneer that was in the last post but...
  2. “Keys to My Heart” & “Music for My Ears”

For Christmas I received the documentary "Note by Note - The Making of Steinway L1037". If you have not seen it I highly recommend it. As a woodworker you will greatly appreciate the work that goes into one of these beautiful concert pianos. I had flashbacks of the documentary when I read...
  3. Flames Necklace

What goes better than wood and flame? How about wooden flames plus pearls? :) Here's my entry for the January contest. I made this necklace with 27 pieces of Padouk, Spalted Maple, Curly Maple, Osage Orange, Black Walnut, Tulipwood, Brazilian Rosewood and Ebony. I cut each one on the scroll...
  4. Exploring with some jewelry

I was turning some Padauk and really enjoyed the natural beauty of just the wood. So I made a pendant. Pendant is 1.25" round and about a quarter inch thick. Used my CA pen finish on it, drilled a hole and found a chain to hang it on. Wife loves it. Now I'm making some to sell at the market.
  5. Wall mounted necklace holder/display made from walnut

Another product for my etsy store. This was made on the CNC. its all one piece - its looks like I glued on the pieces but its just one piece of wood. I used a couple of tools: a 1.5 inch facing tool, a 1/2 compression and the keyhole cutter to create some relief on each hook and for the back...

  10. Natural Edge Cherry Burl Pendant

This is just a nice piece of Natural edge black cherry burl I turned into a pendant. I love making wooden pendants of the rustic and natural looking variety and this one was a favorite. I love the color on it. Almost kept it for myself but a good customer in sweden wanted it so I parted ways.
  11. Black Cherry Burl Pendant with Sapwood

This is a pendant I made from a nice piece of cherry burl. I love the contrasting sapwood streak through this piece. I also do love the subtle swirls of this burl. It's nice to work and to look at. I also made the adjustable leather cord that is on it. I actually still have this piece for sale...
  12. Turned Wooden Beaded Necklaces

I had been looking for a unique wooden beaded necklace for awhile, without success. So, I decided to make my own. Trickier than I had expected, but ultimately a pretty satisfying project. Each bead turned on lathe. Finish was just butcher block oil/wax mix. Great use for small scraps laying...
  13. Amboyna Burl Pendant With Sapwood

This was one of the first pendants I made. It was from a very nice pen blank of Amboyna Burl with a fantastic streak of sapwood in it. I loved the deep reds and swirls of this one. I had not started making leather cords for my pendants yet so this one just had a simple cotton cord but its got a...
  14. Redwood Burl Pendant

A friend of mine is just a tiny bit obsessed with the Pacific Northwest. And understandably so. He went on a family trip out there a couple of months ago and encountered many woodworking shops along the way. One that he ran into had a really nice guy in it. They started talking and my friend...
  15. Cherry Burl Oval Pendant W Sapwood

This one is a little similar to another pendant I made except for the shape. I love the contrasting Sapwood here and also the shape. Which I think every single woman I know has told me is good. haha. I have not made an adjustable leather cord for this one yet. If anyone buys it they get to...

  18. Hornbeam Wood Pendants

This is a collection of the pendants I have made with American Hornbeam wood. I like to use this wood for my walking sticks also. These pendants are just a slice of the stick. What I found interesting about them are the crazy shapes. All of these were taken from the same stick which further...

  20. Portfolio Album

I have been wanting to make a portfolio to display some of my previous work. The album is made to fit standard 8×8 scrapbooking...
