  1. Bowl from marblewood

Bowl from marblewood. Difficult wood to work with! Very fragile and brittle, it broke and chipped frequently. An awful lot of work, beautiful result, but I won't be buying any more marblewood :)
  2. Maple Mallet

I made this mallet completely by hand over the weekend out of maple. Although I wish I would have used ash like Moai. Its a little light but it will come in usefull. It measures 10.25 X 4.25 X 2
  3. Boxes

Here is my first attempt at making a box using box joints. I built a jig to use on my router table. This box is intended to hold napkins on the dinner table. I've made four so far a gave them away. I finished it with eight hand rubbed coats Formby's Tong oil and then about six coats of Briwax.
  4. Ear Ring/Jewelry Holder

Made this Ear Ring Holder for my Wife today. It's turned from some Birdseye Maple, with a Marblewood insert in the top tray, I'm not sure of the species of wood that I used for the column. It measurs 6" tall and 5" in diameter. I dished out both the upper and lower trays slightly so that it...

When I was recovering in the hospital from my heart procedure, I heard of a fundraiser they were having, so when I got home I took some pieces from the scrap box and put together two Cheese/Bread boards to donate for the fundraiser. First one is 7×13 and the second is 7-3/4×11 and made from...

  8. Designing Woodworking Projects
For my double double bed project, with the exception of the posts, I've not started to cut wood for the headboards. Here's what I have now: All wood is red oak. The posts are 3.5×3.5, the (curved) top rail is made from 6/4, and the top plate will be 1×5 or so. Here's the problem: It...
  9. Site Help and Suggestions
I was wondering if there is a way to search for things (like projects) with pictures? When you search for a project you get a huge list of descriptions of each project, which means you have to click on each description to see what it is, what it looks like, etc, etc. Maybe I'm missing...

I recently completed my first glider. I patterened it from a porch swing that I have been making for awhile. To turn it into a glider I purchased some 7.5 inch metal glides specifically for gliders from Rockler. I used some features from glider patterns in magazines and adapted to my swing. The...
  13. Woodturning
So call me a sucker… but while making a "quick" run to Woodcraft to get a wine bottle stopper kit, I perused the turning blanks and was smitten by a 6×6x3 Marlblewood bowel blank, thinking it would make a very nice candy bowel for the Mrs. As is typical for Woodcraft, the blank is covered by...

Hello, my first post and first band saw. I picked this up on CL for next to nothing, thought it would be a great first saw. It seems to work fine after a good cleaning. However the guides are chewed up and the thrust bearing is..well gone. Where can I get guides for this as Sears no longer...
  16. Scrollsawing
Ok, Im relatively new to scrolling, I have a (cheap) Ryobi 16" scroll saw bought used off Craigslist(like 90% of my shop was). The saw came with a handful of blades which seem to work OK for now. I see many benches with dovetails joining an end cap to the front apron…are these mostly for show? Sometimes it looks like it is combined with a few bolts also holding the end cap on. Is this some form of breadboard? Is that how they account for wood movement? What's the general approach...
