oops.. this one was really #11 or something ..
I wasn't going to post a picture of every one of my doors but at this point I'm trying to keep track of the numbers so this is the easiest way.
This is a carving of Tinkerbell that I did for my "behind closed doors" project. Well things change, especially in my world. I have come up with a totally different scene in my mind for the inside of the box and am actually anxious for once to get going on it. It will take a long time to...
Ahhh, what woodworker hasn't taken the time to craft something hand hewn in wood all in the name of Love?
My mini-quest to strike a balance between amour whilst keeping from looking tacky brought me to an idea to build a little fairy door, now, search that on pintrest and you will see a...
My granddaughter was going to make a fairy garden with Nana, of course we must have a fairy cottage… let's call Pop Pop he will make one.
The granddaughter loved it and I got rid of some Cedar fence scrapes. Not pretty, actually I was asked to make it whimsical, and she loved it. Tomorrow it...
This is an intarsia piece I made for my 5 year old granddaughter for Christmas this year because she really likes fairies. I found a picture online and made the pattern from that in Inkscape. It ended up being about 257 different pieces including the individual pieces for the flowers. The...

Here is the latest door in the collection. This one was whisked away by the fairies and ended up in another country!!
Information about its location came to me via GardenTenders.com
Check out its story.
(Thanks to GrandmaT for letting me share her end of the story with you)
We are having lots of requests here at bowenbirdhouses for Fairy houses this spring. Apparently it is good luck to have a fairy house in your garden. All fairy houses are one of a kind, and each come with a fairy and a small bottle of fairy dust. 8-) I am a big fantasy guy, so i build these...
My Mother has a nice back yard, but it has an ugly old well casing sticking up in the middle of it. I couldn't stand it any more. I browsed the internet for ideas, squished them all together and came up with this. It is 14" square at the base and about four feet tall. My plans consisted of a...
Remember the Gnome door I built a while back? Well over the summer one moved in and made himself to home (yes, he's a lonely bachelor). I heard some activity out there today and the wife discovered that he had a fireplace chimney installed, has a bundle of chopped firewood and a snow shovel on...

This morning, in the brittle cold wind and wisps of snow I took a walk around my garden (I have no idea why, I must have been crazy. My goodness it was cold out there)... anyway, by the new "bonfire breakfast" area, where I had a display of cornstalks and pumpkins I saw that...

Today I got a big surprise!! in between rains, I went out to my gazebo and saw that the gnomes had been busy and made their own entrance to the building!!!
Yes, I have a gnome door at my gazebo. The wall seems to be made from a piece of old barn board.
The door appears to have...

Yesterday - I found a Gnome Door on my gazebo and today a Fairy Door showed up in my living room! Holy moly I'm being over run with the little creatures!
It seems they used a piece of poplar (probably left over from one of our other projects).
They carved out the panel...

Fairy Door #4
1. I cut the edges off the piece for the door frame
2. I sanded the door part down to a thinner size so it is inset in the frame.
3. I carved the grooves in the door and in the top of the frame
4. I used a leftover piece of wood that I found...

The Fairies have brought their neighbours-and they have moved into the flower gardens!
I found this sunflower this morning hanging on the old dead tree in one of the flower beds.
Door Handle: an earring: sunflower with sunglasses on.

This one is for my Mom. I plan on attaching it to her deck somewhere and seeing how long it will take for her to find it.. Well, that's just a fairy dream. I won't be able to endure the suspense. I'll be giving it to her and letting her find the "right" location herself.

I'm on a roll with my Fairy Doors and the "Gorilla Tough" challenge came at the perfect time. This "stone" door idea was next on my list.
The Wood: Poplar
The Glue: Gorilla Glue
The Decor: rocks from my driveway, necklace wire (hinges), metal button (door handle)

This might be the last one I post for a while… I'm about out of ideas for new versions.
Wood: walnut (see? I don't always paint walnut!) and poplar (painted black)
Hinges: Jewelry wire
Door Knob: 1/2 a hair barrette
1. cut the walnut to length and then cut the top piece...
