  1. Ambrosia Octagon

Put this together for an artist wanting a unique frame for one of her projects. The distinctive coloring in this maple frame is caused by beetles that make their way into the wood while it is growing. A fungus is responsible for the blue, gray and brown streaks and decorative patch work that...
  2. Natural Edge Walnut Bowl

A friends wife had asked me to make her an unusual bowl. I rescued some pieces of walnut from a firewood pile back in October. The wood had sat for a while but I did manage to get a few bowl blanks. I rough turned one blank the same day, it had a moister content around 28%. I left it about 1"...
  3. Miriam's Treasure Box

This little treasure box was made for a young girl at our Church. All of the cutouts are things that are special to her and come from segments of patterns from Shelia Landry Designs. My wife will fill it with little items she has purchased and we will give it to her Sunday week. This is made...
  4. Mothers Day Bowl

This is a bowl that I turned for a mothers day gift. Its made from maple and bocote. Bocote is a miserable wood, the resin gummed up my bandsaw blade, gummed up my drum sander and gummed up my bowl gouges. I probably wont buy this wood again. I finished it with clear shellac and paste wax.

  6. Hand Tools
I've bee working on this project for a couple of months and finally completed the engraving this week. I think this is one of the nicest engraved planes I've ever worked on. Now on the next one. I've got a couple of projects in the works on some very fine planes and I'll post some pics as I...
  7. Hand Tools
Been awhile since I visited here but I thought you guys might like to see the latest project out of the shop. Wayne Anderson asked me to engrave this beautiful low angle for a client of his and I'm really happy with the results. This one is my first project as a full time engraver. I can be...
  8. Hand Tools
Here is the latest out of the Southern Custom Engraving shop. I started this project 3 months ago and it's finally back on the bench doing what it should do. Cutting very fine shavings. This is a Ron Brese smoother, around Stanley 4 1/2 size. Ron's plane is a work of art in itself. My client...
