  1. Projects Endgrain Cutting Board

We built this cutting board, with a bunch of different types of wood. We glued the wood together and cut it multiple times to create a unique pattern. Then we sanded it down and routed the edges with a 1/8" round-over bit. Then we put some mineral oil on it to keep it from cracking.

Completed on 09-10-2007, this is an end table designed to be multi-functional. It can be used to hold books, stereo, television, VCR or anything else. One of the pair built is pictured here. The customer will use it to hold stereo components. It will be placed on either side of their...

  6. Mission Style "oops" End Table

This Mission style side table was made out of scrap left over from the coffee table and sofa tables that I made previously. ( also posted as a project here) I decided to build this small end table for areas where space was limited. Such as next to the sofa near a walk way as shown in the photo...
  7. End Grain Cutting Boards

Last October 2006 I was looking through one of the many woodworking magazines I receive and saw some cutting boards. They looked really nice, so I decided to make 12 of them for gifts. End grain of Maple, Walnut and Cherry. Edge glued different widths together in a solid piece. Then crosscut...
  8. Tabouret Table

These were made from red oak from the plans in Popular Mechanics - Mission Furniture - How to Make It. We found the book in the Gamble House bookstore. Originally, I was only going to make one, but I made a mental mistake, thinking that tables need four legs. When I realized that two lapped...
  9. Walnut end table

Black walnut, finished just with boiled linseed oil and paste wax. Big mistake - because walnut is open-pored, the wax residue sticks in the pores and makes the finish a foggy gray color! LOL. Had to go back and wipe it down with mineral spirits, then I re-oiled it. Still not delighted with...
  10. Barn window coffee table

Simple coffee table using an old barn window. My wife designed it, and I built it. Tempered glass is on top and on the bottom shelf. Legs have a taper and are dadoed into the shelf below the top. The wood used is all reclaimed barn boards; maple, elm, and red oak.
  11. Basket inspired pieces

Let me just say that between my mom and my sister I think they have one of every Longaberger Basket ever made. We as a family frequent the Dresden/Longaberger area quite a bit and I often pick up little ideas while I am there looking around. The attached photos are all pieces I have made for mom...
  12. Bubinga Mission-Style Bed Bench

My wife and I are both short; neither can sit on the bed and put on our socks easily. My wife pointed out the difficulty and encouraged me to do something about it. On a trip to a local wood store, she spotted a slab of Bubunga that she really liked, purchased it, and told me to get cracking...
  13. Cantilever End Table

This table is made 100% out of scrap wood that was destined to be burned. The boards that I decided to use were full of flaws and were so unique and colorful that the flaws had to be designed around. This End Table has so many flaws that it should have been thrown out; but the flaws make this...
  14. Curly Top Recycled End Table

This table is made out of scrap wood. Found the pieces in a throw out pile at a hardwood lumber yard. Got the OK to take them. The top is burled Hickory…...I think. Used lap joints, biscuits, and screws for the construction. Even made homemade plugs for underneath the table top supports...
  15. End Grain Hall/Sofa Table (Completely Reclaimed)

This was an experiment to see if it would look okay. It did. I learned a lot from this table. Firstly, end grain is a huge hassle to glue up. Make sure you have enough clamps to keep the ends from curling up while the glue dries. Secondly, even though the barn wood may look straight does...

Here is the endgrain cutting board I made in shop class. It is made of Walnut, White Birch, Cherry, and Hickory. I coated the board with Mineral oil for a darker finish.
