  1. Obligatory First Bookshelf

From the few things I've read, it almost seems like a right of passage to build a set of bookshelves as one of, if not the, first project as a woodworker. The cliche wasn't enough to dissuade me. It didn't hurt that we had boxes and piles of books strewn across the house, either. I was feeling...
  2. Entertainment Center / Shelves

Custom built-in shelves. I included a hidden IR repeater to allow operation of the sound system and DVD player behind the closed cabinet doors.
  3. TEA, bookshelf and drawers.

I built a pair of identical bookshelves as Christmas present for my two sons. I design it as usual: as simple as I could. The drawers have no handles but the oversized fronts, the shelves are hold in position by glass (very stable in longitudinal direction). I got an old piece of wood: it was a...
  4. Arts & Crafts Bookshelves

This is a set of bookshelves for my sister-in-law's wedding gift. She got married in July and I finished them mid-December. I've been pretty busy planning our new house construction so… better late than never. This was my first attempt at the keyed tenon joint and I was really impressed with...
  5. media center with bookshelves

Had some extra time around the shop, so we decided to build this. Its made out of poplar and mdf and finished it with some dunn edwards paint. The top is walnut and finished with polyurethane. Not really my style of cabinet but I think someone will like it. Thanks for looking!!!
  6. Walnut & Copper Pipe Book Shelves

I made these shelves for a client. They're made from 4/4 walnut and from construction-grade, three-quarter inch (L) copper pipe. More than 200 solders are included in this seven-shelf unit. Shelves are fully removable for ease of moving. Unit measures 94" high x 40" wide x 12" deep. Because of...
  7. Bookcase

My first project at the new house once I got my garage set up. The old townhouse had a set of built in shelves which I lost and needed a way to get my boxes of books off the floor. The sides and back are made with raised panels and all of the molding was cut on a router table. Tracks for the...
  8. Built-in Bookshelves

Hi guys so we had this nook in the wall of a reception room just off our patio which I had always thought would be perfect for some fitted shelves. My wife had found a design she liked (of course on Pinterest) and eventually got around to doing some plans and getting the space ready in about...
  9. Bookshelves - Carmelia (Summer 2009)

I ended up building 2 of these. They are a full 8' tall, 4' wide, and 18" deep. They have a drilled peg system running the length of the sides. She wanted it painted but also wanted the texture of a deep woodgrain to be visible. Cheap CDX plywood is perfect for this situation. The shelves are...
  10. Study bookshelves

My biggest project to date, 2 full walls of built-in bookshelves. Took waaaay too long to complete and too many trips to install :(
  11. Bookshelves - finished enough for now

This was the first big project that my 15-year old son and I "completed". Nothing is ever really completed since we need to add trim, but it's been in use for a couple of years now and we never really finish anything we start (can anyone else relate to that?). We have an old house, built in...
  12. 1st attempt at bookshelves & mantle!

Not the greatest pic but here they are. The wife wanted some big, girthy bookcases and a simple mantle to surround the pellet stove. These are made entirely of pine with a dark walnut stain and 3 coats of min-wax poly. The top molding is a simple chair rail molding. There are quite a few...
  13. Five Section Bookshelves

Birch plywood with Poplar doors and shelf facings. Minwax True Black water based stain, with water based Spar Urethane clear coating. If I had to do it again, I would definitely stain and seal the parts before construction, as the Minwax stain is tough to get into all of the corners cleanly.
  14. Dr. Seuss Bookshelves

I was commissioned to make these bookshelves by a co-worker for a kid's room. She found some pictures online to give me a general idea of what she was looking for. I debated on how to build the sides and after some trial and error (mostly error), I decided that using 1 1/2'' pine strips worked...
  15. Bookcases

My new bookcases, ignore the opening casing still working on that. Took me three months to build these and learned a lot- the biggest lessons are: 1. Houses are REEAAALLY crooked 2. Do not use oak plywood unless you want the oak texture 3. Hold on to wood when using router table (lets just...
  16. Man Cave

Here is a nice Man Cave I built about a year ago. I have previously published pictures of the Built-in Media Center. Here are some pictures of the bar.
  17. Floating Backlit Bookshelves

These bookshelves were a sub-project of a basement improvement project that I started early this year, and they're the first to be completely finished. I'll post the cabinet build project once they are completed (I'm oh-so-close). The bookshelves are 3/4" maple plywood with iron-on birch edge...
  18. Built-in Bookshelves/Entertainment Center

I actually built this in August of 2018, but I haven't posted it until now. My wife and I had been wanting to transform our playroom, which was a depressing place where nobody ever spent any time. I decided it would take a built-in bookshelf/entertainment center to make the space work. It was...
  19. Pine built-in bookshelves

I made these shelves out of 3/4 inch pine boards with a thin plywood back. The boards are cupped a bit, but using clamps you can straighten them out for glueing. This must be why so many people use plywood!
  20. Dual-Ladder Planked Book Shelves

My wife and I are big readers, and we have an extensive collection of books distributed throughout the house. We were running out of room ('06) and Stephanie decided she would rather make a new shelving system than buy one. Also, we thought we were going to move soon, so we tried to make it easy...
