  1. Recent work

I don't post as often as I should. Here is some recent work. Been experimenting with bookmarks and earrings in addition to the necklaces and boxes I have been making for quite some time. Bookmarks are glued up in blocks and thin strip ripped either on the bandsaw or tablesaw with a thin strip...
  2. Bookmarks

Trying to use up a few scraps, I made a couple bookmarks. One is black walnut with wenge and the other is cherry and bloodwood. The purpose of the slots in the cherry one was so it could slip over a page like a paperclip. However, in hindsight, I would make the grooves wider next time to...
  3. Bookmark

This is my latest bookmark. These are much like cutting boards, you make one and suddenly you have an idea of how you can use your odds and bobs that are lying around the shop, to make another, then another, then… They're easy to make, don't use a lot of lumber and people fall all over...
  4. Bookmarks

Just a couple of bookmarks from scraps. The center is cherry that has cool looking sap lines and the outsides are walnut. I'm not sure what the dimensions are- I just eyeball-ed it but the thickness is a tiny bit less than 1/8"
  5. Bookmark

Just a simple bookmark for my wife.
  6. Wooden Bookmarks

I made about 20 of these from scrap pieces of a 317 year old white oak tree at my church for the teachers of the preschool classes there. The design of the oak tree at the bottom was done freehand with a woodburning tool based on the outline of the tree that stood for so many years. These...

  8. Unusual Bookmark

Big, heavy bookmark made from reclaimed Spotted Gum. Based on a design by Paul Cocksedge. With books slowly disappearing it's nice to have a couple out on display. This bookmark could stand on your side table ready to keep your page when you put down your favourite story. I like that it...
  9. More Bookmarks..........

More bookmarks that I have been playing with…..... it's amazing how many color combinations you can come up with ! Same dimensions: 6-1/4" x 1-3/8" x 1/16" and finished with Danish and Black Bison Wax. From Left to Right: Canarywood & Purpleheart Curly Maple & Ebony Caribbean Rosewood...
  10. Camp Fire fun, and Bookmarks!

Just having some fun on the lathe. Trying out different handle ideas for the Hotdog/marsh-mellow sticks I made! Handles are just made from pine (I will probably make the real ones out of a hardwood - but these were just for practice) Not sure of the finish I will put on them. Probably just a...
  11. Wooden bookmarks and How-To video

Bookmarks for my future Mother-in-law for her 50th Bday. She is a devout catholic. Thought this would work well for her books! Made out of walnut. Here is the PDF file of the pattern I created/used. Feel free to use it yourself (the link is safe - takes you to Google Docs) How-To video is...

I'm doing it again As the year comes to a close I realized a lot of stuff has changed in my shop and the work I have been doing in the past 3 years since I posted my ""52 Weeks Blog"":http://lumberjocks.com/clieb91/blog/series/3490 in 2011. I also realized how much I enjoyed doing that blog and...
  14. Power Tools, Hardware and Accessories
First, if this this is not the right section, let me know. I see a lot of discussion about SawStop on here. Is SawStop a great saw and lust-worthy for being a great saw or do people just want and praise it because of its special feature (the ability to stop a sawblade cold before major...
