  1. Bentwood Ring (Ebony)

This particular project is a ring made from a single strip of exotic Ebony using the bentwood method, without the use of power tools of any kind. It was then hand-sanded and finished with multiple coats of a polymerized linseed oil and beeswax mix that provides durability while maintaining its...
  2. Bentwood Ring using Macassar Ebony with Crushed Bronze Glass Accent Inlay

I used a crushed glass accent inlay since the malachite has been doing so well. It is much more subtle than most inlays but when exposed to light it really "pops"! I plan to use this material for full inlays as well for anyone wanting a unique and classy look. I really respect the skill and...
  3. Bentwood Ring (Zebrawood)

Here is another bentwood ring I've made from a single strip of Zebrawood. Came out a bit thicker than I would have liked, because I experimented with a 12" strip as opposed to my usual 10". Will revert back to the 10" again in the future. I'm also looking into purchasing a dremel for...
  4. EBONIZED Karelian Birch DOUBLE-WIDE Bangle

I've been experimenting with Ebonizing different woods naturally. Through trial and error I have arrived at a good technique. First I let some steel wool sit in vinegar for a few days then I make a jar of really strong black tea and cool it. I saturate the wood with the tea first to elevate the...
  5. Make your own bentwood ring

Since I posted the bentwood rings that I made I got a lot of questions about how to make them and how they are made. To answer all of those questions I have made these two videos. First video is about preparation and what do you need. Second video is about bending, gluing up and finishing the...
  6. Abstract Bentwood Art

The first project I have for my students in my Woods I class is a design project. They are instructed to make bentwood abstract art. The wood we bent was red oak and the other woods could be anything they wanted. Many students struggled on this project and especially on the finishing and...
  7. TOOT TOOT! :) Bentwood Ebony Ring with Crushed Bronze Glass Full Inlay

After some positive feedback from the super-duper LJ contributors here using the crushed glass with transverse accent, I quickly made the same ring using the material as a full inlay. I don't mean to toot my own horn but…TOOT TOOT! :) This new inlay material is awesome as it is translucent...
  8. Bentwood ring with bass guitar inlay

The ring is made from walnut and I used bass guitar string (0.45) to inlay it. Bass guitar string was suitable because she wanted me to make it stick out. With guitar string you can "hide" it in the groove and beneath the finish so that the surface is flush. Since I made a "How to make a...
  9. Rosewood Ring with Braided Maple Inlay

This was not a commissioned ring, but one I decided to try for fun. The base of the ring is rosewood, with a channel cut out in the center for the inlay. Each of the three maple strands were carefully cut to around .5mm and soaked in water before braiding. I learned a couple things in doing...
  10. Some finished wooden bottle stoppers

I bought a lathe a month ago (thanks for the advice fellow jocks!) And i've been busy turning and playing and having fun. Here's some bottle stoppers I made recently. the first one has a checkered pattern the next three are made of redheart wood the last one is a laminated wood blank from...
  11. My bentwood ring.

This is my best effort so far on bentwood rings. I am struggling with glue marks during the process but they are getting better and better.
  12. Cherry box

Cherry box I made for my wife a while back.
  13. Metal & Wood Unite

I am really enjoying mixing the hardness of metal and softness of wood in my rings. Planning to add more metals like 316L stainless steel and titanium to the mix of some new exotic woods. The endless combinations and possibilities will keep me busy and out of trouble for a long time. :)
  14. Purple People Eater - Purpleheart Bentwood Ring with silver glass inlay

Okay okay, I know…Texas A&M colors are maroon and white but this is what an Aggie fan ordered and who am I to argue? :) The silver glass inlay really snaps, crackles and pops! When outdoors in the sunlight the glass is super brilliant and looks like it's battery operated…lol. Purpleheart is...
  15. Bentwood Walnut, Turquoise and Sliver Ring

Well it was a long road getting to the point I could post a ring I could be proud of, but I made it! Last summer my college age son was asking me what woodworking project have I wanted to make, but yet to master. I showed him some bentwood rings I had seen in various online postings, including...
  16. "the Walnut" Free-form Wooden Ring #1

Hey guys! It has been a while since I've posted any projects, so I figured I'd share something. :) This is a size 7 Walnut ring. It's quite different from our other rings in that it features an asymmetric design. The base is our standard bentwood construction with solid pieces joined and...
  17. Bentwood Rings

Here's an assortment of bentwood rings I've made recently. - Walnut lined with birch - Mahogany - Red Oak - Bubinga - Rosewood - Tropical Olivewood These are finished with several coats of Arm-R-Seal and buffed with Black Bison. (Except for the last two, which have a natural oil finish applied.)
  18. Bending Bamboo & Rosewood with Silver Core

This bentwood ring was created for a client who wanted to match two woods on an existing wooden watch for her husband…I'm lucky if my socks match… :)
  19. A bit more "BLING" to spice things up a bit! Glass Inlay on Rosewood Bentwood Ring

This is my attempt to make a bentwood ring that caters more to those who want a bit more bling on their ring. The wider glass inlay reflects light brilliantly and feels like a super hero ring when outside in the sun. :) Hope you guys and gals like it and as always, I welcome any ideas and/or...
  20. Bentwood Rosewood Ring Jewelry

Bending wood is hard…until it's soft. ;) Not sure how many girls are on this forum but no matter. I have enjoyed looking at many awesome projects here and thought to throw some of mine into the mix. This is my first bentwood ring I ever sold and it was a huge hurdle for me as it took lots...
