  1. Garden Arbor

Western Red Cedar… great to work with and my shop smelled heavenly for weeks. She uses this as a gate to the garden. I was able to transport it in one piece but I had to brace the bottom as you can see in the fourth photo. Looking forward to the next cedar project.
  2. The Arbor

Fence Phase 2… The Arbor It's been a year since I built the fence and since it hasn't fallen over (yet) I felt it was time to move on to the next phase. Da little women has always planned for an arbor, so time to get started. Doing the work by myself, I enlisted the help of The Third Hand...
  3. Outdoor stuff

Budget woodworking at its finest. Doug Fir and pallets. Now that the rainiest winter in recent history is behind us I can get this stuff out of the shop to where it belongs.
  4. Arbor

Made this cedar arbor for my backyard last summer. For the curved slats on the sides I made a template out of hardboard then used a pattern bit in my router to make them two at a time. I hope to have some vines growing on it this summer. I actually made two of them and sold the other to pay for...
  5. Walnut Table...Rust-egant?? Ele-rustic??

This is a table I came up with when a buddy gave me some end-grain slabs of black walnut from a downed tree on his property. The only thing I could think to do with them was use them for table tops. This table uses the first of two pieces I received. The belt sander didn't work too well (even...

Here are some projects where I used recycled cedar. The lumber came from my kids playground that I have built about 13 years ago. It has been moved once when we moved to our new house. I think I have pay about $700 at the time for the new timber from the hardware store. Now my boy is 17 and...
  7. wedding arbor

I built an oak arbor for my wedding. The lumber came from the dusty corner of a warehouse auction for $5. It's a mix of red and white oak. The top rails are cross lapped into the arch section and held in place with screws. The rest of the structure is jointed together with pegged mortises...
  8. Arched Arbor / Pergola for large corner Sandbox

This project took a bit of scribbling on paper and computer-aided drawing (SketchUp) to get it right. Due to the two palm trees, the angle of the beams form a slightly acute triangle when viewed from above. Additionally, since it is near our fence, I was told by the city that it needed to pass...
  9. Pergola and swing

Construction Notes: This 10' x 12' pergola is my own design and came from photos and observations of other pergolas. It is recommended for those with at least intermediate skill level. The construction is straightforward and uses stock lumber dimensions and lengths. The swing plans were...
  10. Garden arbor

I created this back yard garden arbor in May of 2010 as a birthday present for my wife. I couldn't find a set of plans on the internet that I liked, so I created my own. Wood is treated pine and will be stained with a natural finish some time this summer. The trellis panels are molded plastic...
  11. Cedar Swings

Here is a pair of simple cedar swings. Made for an NHL hockey player, these swings were a pretty quick and easy project for me. No plans were used, just some ideas from pictures on the internet. They actually sit very comfortably and will be hung in free standing arbor's on the clients property...
  12. 7x lumberjocking: hot tub, deck, swings, arbor, firepit, birdhouse, hammock swing

This is my latest woodworking project :) Had an "unloved" corner in our small garden, therefore we decided to turn it into a quiet relaxation spot. Minimum square feet - maximum use. Basicly all the necessary tools were: a handsaw, a pencil and a spirit level. Wood is treated pine. Photos...

fun garden project to provide some patio privacy. couldn't find a cheap post hole digger, so hand dug the post holes, erected 6×6 posts, bandsaw cut the post caps, used 2×6 post ties, and ripped down treated stock to 1.25×2 for lattice work. lots of screws. just planted a bunch of...
  15. Out Door Swing and Arbor

This was made out of pressure treated wood, sanded and stained. Started with the one above my shop door cause it just looked like it needed something. Like many things, one project leads to another and tried to keep the theme the same. Hardest part was trying to fine straight pressure treated...

  17. Grape Arbor

After having one of our grape vines grow along the ground and the side fence for several years it was time to put up an arbor. Only took about 2 1/2 days build time, with the hardest part being setting the metal post holders into the ground. All Cedar construction. I am leaving this arbor to...
  18. DRILL PRESS LOOSE ARBOR FIX AND SPRING TOOL

This is what you get when you buy a inexpensive drill press . Here is my solution for taking the play out of my drill press arbor . I installed a new chuck and hoped that the run out would be corrected but it turned out that the play of the arbor was the problem . Four nylon screws solved the...
