The stools are fun. Don't be intimidated. The hardest part is getting the top and bottom parallel (co-planar), once you do that, the shaping can be done with chain saw, angle grinder, chisel, axe, adze or whatever else you have access to.
These are really cool. I was looking through your projects, the chairs are really really impressive, but something about the simplicity of the stools (the process of getting there seems a bit more daunting the more I think about it and how to shape that giant piece) and their one piece construction appeals to me.
