« Part 1: Getting past the design Part 2 of Cherry Amoire series Part 3: Putting it all together »

I had read a lot about the best way to build drawers. I was going back and forth on do I make them out of plywood or solid wood. In the end I didn’t want to have to glue up sides etc so I went with baltic birch plywood. I chose to do dovetails on them and that was a challenge….The tearout was almost unavoidable…I have a PC 2012 dovetail jig and I needed a way to have a backboard that would help prevent the tearout…I ended up using a piece of pine with two small reference dowels glued in them…the dowels “hooked” on the left edge of the board. That way no matter the width of the board it would always line up in the same place. It wasn’t foolproof and I had to make a couple of them but it did an ok job.

Finally the drawers are assembled…

Starting to look like a real cabinet! There may be hope!
