Christmas Time! What's on everybody's lists?

I asked for a new Woodriver block plane for Christmas from the wife. I haven’t a good hand plane and read some decent reviews on this little guy and figured it might be a good place to start. I tried to be considerate and not ask for a Lie-Neilson so I found it humorous when the wife’s response to the WoodRiver was “89 dollars for that thing!?”. SO just to prove to her that I’m not way out of line here, I figured I would ask what was at the top of everybody’s lists this year. I’m sure some of you guys have much more expensive requests than myself. So fire away!

Ask her what she (or her more extravagant(sp?) friends paid for the handbag they use every day.

That $89 plane could last 50 or 100 years long after that handbag is landfill fodder.

I was thinking about a LN scrub. I don’t own any LN planes.

My 220 stanley was robbed from an Iraqi tank tool box. The Iraqi that stole it from the Kuwaiti that bought it new it didn’t need it anymore.

I would like more shop time then more cool wood. You could make her a very nice box out of something special if you had it.

Neil, have you found any place that sells “more shop time”? If you do, let me know, because that would be at the top of my Christmas list as well.

It’s in most major department stores, typically right next to the “round tuits.”

Happy hunting :-)

Last year I asked for a gift card to LN but now luck. This year I said I don’t need much and hope she doesn’t get much. That way after Christmas I’ll just go get what I want and no feel guilty about it.

Oh I have lots of extra “round tuits” laying around in my shop. I’m sure that I could always pass them on if anyone is buying them at the store.

It’s funny, I have so many things on my Christmas “to make” list, that I haven’t put anything on my “to get” list. Odd how that happened. :)

Amen on the “to make” list rather than the “to get” list, Dale. My “to make” list kind of happened from both a lack of funds and a bit of extra wood. So what better solution than some home made goodies for the loved ones. Plus, I now have a really noble reason to spend my next 2 1/2 weeks in the shop, if only I didn’t have that darned day job to get in my way…

Two weeks away from the shop with a good book. I am exhausted. No sawdust, no trips to the post office, and no dealing with lost packages in the mail. Sounds like the lyrics to a good Christmas woodworking song…..
