« Part 3: Birthday experience Part 4 of Dovetails series no next part

After taking some serious time off from woodworking, COVID, new life situations, and interests have put me back here. I initially got into woodworking to craft a dovetail jointed cabinet for a guitar amplifier, but that project has since been finished. A friend of mine, another aspiring woodworker, made a plywood box for me and I called it done.

Circling back after almost 8.5 years, I’ve rekindled my interest in woodwork. This time, I’ve been avidly following Paul Sellers’ Blog and masterclass site. This is a creative outlet for me now. Instead of having a particular project in mind, I just want to enjoy the journey.

Coincidentally, one of the courses on (one of Paul’s sites) was a single dovetail. I thought it appropriate to pick up where I left off. This time, though, I’m starting slower and simpler.

Here’s that single dovetail, errors and all. I’m hoping this is the start of something new…or old, depending on how you look at it.

Practice makes perfect, as the old saying goes. I’m just a hobbyist and I practice dovetails when I have extra time.
I was making a drawer for my camper and figured this is a good time to put my practice to good use. They were not perfect but I know the drawer won’t fall apart. I don’t think i’ll ever make perfect ones, but i’ll keep trying. Good luck and welcome back to the craft.
